Red Eyes

I’ve noticed when I wake in the mornings, my eyes are red. They look like I’ve had no sleep, but it fades away once I get my day going. Anyone else notice this?

I have not noticed that, but am wondering if it could be allergy related? I wake up like that if my cat sleeps in my room. I hope some one else comes along with more info. 😊

And it may have nothing to do with PBC. I have had chronic dry eyes since I was 40, or that’s when I first had to have prescription readers. Dr told me then I could never wear contacts. Thank you😊

I also have the same thing. I have epithelial basement membrane dystrophy and severe dry eye. Before bed I use a gel drop. My eyes still migjt be red and swollen in the morning but they don't hurt as much.

Thanks. I was told to use eye drops but I didn’t. Guess I’ll rethink it🤗

Same! Not always, but often.

I get this, sometime in the day to if iam in a very dry environment. I suffer the dry eyes so I put it down to that.

Thanks candy12. I feel some of mine may be due to the dryness.

Hi gwillistexas,

I've suffered with terrible dry eye since 5/16, about 5 months before I was diagnosed last year. I believe it's a PBC thing. Maybe an RA thing too. I don't know. But PBC for sure.

I went to the eye doctor who prescribed lubricant eye drops. I use them every 4 hours but over night it's much worse. In the morning I wake up with scratchy, red, puffy eyes. Ugh! Even at almost 60yrs of age (I'm 58), I never had red eyes or puffy bags under my eyes. Well, I do now for sure. Have had for this last year😯.

I'm still not used to how I look. My eye doctor told me not to use regular eye drops that promise to "get the red out" like Visine, the kind of eye drops we have here in the states. She warned me that these will only make the dry eye problem worse. I use Refresh, or Sustane, both mainly are just lubricant eye drops. Mine are bad though and I may need something by prescription.

I've read that placing a warm towel/compress over the eyes for 5 to 10 minutes helps maybe with unplugging clogged eye ducts. I've never tried it yet though.

Right now I've got a few issues surfacing. URQ pain and stomach issues. Feels like last year when this all started and I had gastritis. I have blood work today.... I'm a bit worried about what my numbers will be.

Oh well.... It's gonna be a gorgeous Fall day in Kansas! I'm gonna do my best to enjoy it. Have a good weekend. Try the warm compress thing. I may try that this afternoon too. Sounds soothing.

Stella ♥️

ktltel, good morning. Mine aren’t scratchy or puffy. Sometimes they sort of burn or feel irritated. My eye dr also told me to use systain but I wasn’t faithful with it. Mine is out of date but I’m getting more this weekend. I’m sure it will help. Thank you!
