Upper right quadrant pain..

That's my Charlie and Brodie. (Brothers, 7 yrs old)

So my mammogram came back good, colonoscopy came back good, last labs were good Alk-phose 138, everything else in normal range for now. (AMA-M2 still up too though.)

For the last 3 days I've been having URQ pain. Like an ache and it can also hurt round the back side too. I have labs again the week of the 25th.

I know many of you have had this discomfort. Any rhyme or reason for this? Anything work to help with the pain that's safe for the liver?

Any and all advice, suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

Stella ❤

I normally get it if I have over done anything like too much rich food or too tired out and not listening to my body and definitely if i decide to have a sneaky glass of wine so listen to your body. If it carries on then get checked out for an infection.

Thank you. No alcohol of any kind but maybe too much regular food that I cooked for my husband and that his mother cooked for me. She tries. It's a bit salty though. I have just got to eat better. I realize just how sensitive my liver is. It's very scary to me.

Ktltlel. Hi.I love your 4 legged kids!!! I can only think it is due to inflammed liver that we get these pains in our body. I also had good result from Mammogram and liver counts also not too bad. Vit D sufficient. As a result of having Hashimotos my thyroid is always playing games either hyper active or under, but I have learned to cope with it during the years and still have a lot to be thankful for.

Rickie,

Is the inflammation from the disease or what we eat that could trigger this pain? It's usually intermittent but this is the first time it's lasted this long. Has me a bit worried.

Your guess is as good as mine, but I know what we eat also has an influence on the liver. I am on gluten free diet. Get good days and some bad ones. Either I itch or the bile gets so inflamed that I get upset tummy and after my body got rid of the bile, the itch is better. Real vicious circle.

yes had it for years.. could almost draw a line through from front spot to back.

paracetemol helps a little. also putting right arm up across back of neck to lift ribcage. helps a little. or lie down and put arms above head... but theze are only temporary relief. best wishes cazer

Cazer,

I'm going to speak to my doctor about it. I'm not scheduled for any kind of scan for several months. Should I be worried about this?

How are you feeling these days. You were having tummy troubles. Are you any better?

Stella

but no harm in checking.

cazer profile image
cazer in reply toKtltel

the consultants at Birmingham were never worried about it... had that ache for 18years until my transplant in may this year.... that ache has now gone.

still having tummy problems... they think it might be anti rejection drugs.. but now on a slightly lower dose so crossing fingers.

although the right uqp is a nuisance i don't think it is anything to be overly concerned about. best wishes cazer.

Sweet babies. Happy your labs were good & other tests as well. My GI said Tylenol safe as long as not too much. I only take one for headache if I absolutely need to. 😊

Thank you,

I'm gonna try diet first. It just a dull ache but definitely there. I didn't think I was going off track that much diet wise but, guess I have to be more strict than I thought. Lesson learned. 🤤

Mine comes & goes. More of a twingy ache. I’ve not been able to pin point anything particular that I’ve eaten.

Yes, I've had this before, like you it came and went. Just wish it would "went" already. Lol.

I have twinges at times and it hurts slightly if I lay on my right side. My app is 179. Other labs are normal. I have stage 2 fibrosis. I hope you feel better. I love your Beagle babies.

Thank you. I had a biopsy and an ERCP early this year in Feb. Doc said I was in early stage. I'm having a fibroscan in Feb. 2018. My one year mark from my last biopsy. Getting labs done next week. I get them every month for right now. Something to do with my RA drugs. Just keeping an eye on my liver.

I don't know about the URQ pain a lot of people seem to have that complaint but it's awesome that your scans all came out great.

I love your dogs. They are so cute. that discomfort is normal. You should be drinking plenty of water. You probably are. I learned that peanutbutter is a trigger for me

I think it's the fat content in Peanut Butter.

I've had the right side pain/discomfort for several years- doctor says its the capsule around the liver responding to the swelling of my liver. He prescribed tramadol, but if I take it very often my itch is worse. I also have osteoporosis, which has caused pain in my hip and spine. The best relief comes from using a heating pad- this helps for the URQ pain, too. Most days it's tolerable without pain medicine, but sleeping is harder. God bless!

Hi Ktltel

Yes pain in my liver area is also a problem for me.

I also make “liver stones” which are troublesome. But the pain is not always from them.

Other symptoms are the fatigue which can be so hard. I feel like I’m low in blood sugar or something. Just get so tired. Usually can not sleep but lying down and resting does help

My ALK phos goes up and down between 200-289

GGT is usually about the same numbers

ALT 50 +-

AST 60-+

Bilirubin stays around 16-22

My last fibroscan was 10

just started with a new specialist and have not had an appointment that was long enough to get many answers.

Have only minor itching, but night sweats and trouble sleeping bothersome.

I forget if I responded i have been busy with work and life and i’m finally just catching up on everyone! Like others said i get the pain here and there and i find it so unnerving. I noticed i was getting it when i ate cheese (which i love) and i am now avoiding dairy and feeling great as a consequence, to my surprise. Dehydration seems to trigger the pain too. Your dogs are adorable and I’m so glad your test results were encouraging.
