Hi. I have heard today that cbd oil (canabis oil) might be good for pbc. Apparently you can buy it in health food stores. Does anyone know anything about this please?

I have been using one from holland and barret, don't know that it helps with PbC but it certainly relaxes my body and seems to take the edge off some pain, I do sleep well from taking it.

I take lots of pain med for headache! do you think cbd oil can help me?

It takes the edge off the pain for me, it's not a miracle but I do find it helps a lot. Holland and Barrett do one, it's £20 for a small bottle but worth trying it if you have a spare £20

My sister takes it regularly as she's heard it helps prevent scleroderma as my mum had it and we're all terrified of getting it x

You will find this article very interesting; especially this part:

" I now believe the answer is yes. Research has shown that small doses of cannabinoids from cannabis can signal the body to make more endocannabinoids and build more cannabinoid receptors. This is why many first-time cannabis users don't feel an effect, but by their second or third time using the herb they have built more cannabinoid receptors and are ready to respond. More receptors increase a person's sensitivity to cannabinoids; smaller doses have larger effects, and the individual has an enhanced baseline of endocannabinoid activity. I believe that small, regular doses of cannabis might act as a tonic to our most central physiologic healing system."

I have been taking CBD Brother's oil since June , I haven't had a blood test done lately so I don't know if it has an effect on my liver results. I would recommend you join the Facebook page CBD consumer group uk/eu ...they have a lot of experience in using it, The Holland and Barret oil is not recommended. I buy a small bottle of white oil which costs £50 but lasts approximately 6 weeks , there are cheaper products ...check out the reviews on the CBD Brothers' page . I've had the best sleep ever since taking it and hope my blood test results will have improved.

Did CBD Brothers oil reduce your liver enzymes?

Buddy2017 profile image
Buddy2017 in reply toJlruggie

Yes , all my numbers went down ( sorry can't remember the exact results ) plus my fibro scan results went down from 13.5 to 12.1

Buddy,

That’s fantastic! Did your liver enzymes go to normal after using CBD oil? Did you say you used “Brothers” oil? I’m afraid I’ll get the wrong oil.

Not normal just down in numbers ......are you in UK ......I use the WHITE oil from CBD BROTHERS....just start slowly 1 drop under tongue and hold there for 3 minutes ( have a sweet ready coz it tastes awful ) do this 3 times a day ........leave 2 hour gap between other medication ....following week go up a drop .......I now after a year only do 1 drop in morning and 2 at night ( it helps you sleep ...good luck

Buddy, it’s been a year later since post about CBD bringing enzymes down. How are you today and how are your numbers?

I haven't had an appointment with my consultant for 9 months so I don't really know the results of my blood tests ...I still take it but have had to go to a stronger oil , I use it to sleep. I have such a good nights sleep that I have started walking every day because I have so much energy. In the last year I have lost 2 stone and my latest Fibro scan in December had dropped to 9.1 and reading the posts written before it was 12.1

Steady on .. pain relief and pbc are very separate things .

For sure cannabis oil is a good analgesic and relaxant ..

The question is ' what is the impact of cannabis oil on the liver and biliary cells '

Currently I don't know enough about cannabis but if it's broken down in liver as most drugs will be then would want that basic question answered first

So proceed with caution

wild statements without foundation can b harmful for some ..

check it out .. 🤔

I only know that the oil is now legal here and many PBC patients in the US take cannabis not just the oil and get it on prescription, including those waiting for transplant and post-transplant it is taken to calm the itch and for pain relief. It also started world war 3 in a group I am in re transplant but enough patients reported that its prescribed.

I know nothing about it, not advocating it, much as I do not advocate many things. I would suggest discussing it with a hepatologist PBC specialised.

My hepetologist said no to me taking marijuana to lower liver enzymes 3 years ago. I haven’t asked her about CBD oil yet because she said marijuana make pbc worse. If anyone has any more good info on marijuana please let me know

My numbers have gone way down since using for another medical condition. Since are almost normal and I've been nowhere near normal since dx2009. Research cannabis and liver disease, no reason those findings wouldn't apply to pbc as well. Your hepatologist probably doesn't understand cannabis. I find doctors who don't know medical cannabis are quick to say no, marijuana is bad.

My doctor told me that a THC is very bad for your liver. But he did not know if CBD was. I’m trying to get an answer. Pain meds especially Ibuprofen is very bad for cirrhosis. And pain management is challenging for medical practitioners for patients with cirrhosis period. So CBD would help if it was good for us. As soon as I get an answer I can trust , I’ll get back here and tell you what I have learned.
