Hi- it's been a while since I've posted but hoping you can help. I have to see my consultant in 2 weeks and want to be prepared. He has twice put me on fenofibrate( I came off the 1st time shortly after starting with my gp's approval) because my lft readings remain high. This would suggest urso not working. It says on the leaflet in the tablet box that you shouldn't take fenofibrate if you have liver disease. I read a bit more into this and while it does bring readings down there seems to be uncertainties about long term effects. There also seems to be no slowing or improvements in the condition so is it just masking the problem? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks

Hi Jo53,
I was put on fenofibrates to lower cholesterol and have since found out it can be beneficial for pbc too. I had to stop statins as they had a bad effect on my lfts and am unable to take urso after a severe allergic reaction. So far I have no problems and cholesterol lowered, though not as much as when on statins. I don't really have an option not to take it at the moment, so hoping there are no adverse effects long term. Been on them for about a year now.
Hello Jo53, sounds like i am in the same position as you. I am off the urso and about to start fenofibrate because I have fat deposits in places where they shouldn't be. Have to have bloods every week for 6 weeks. Will let you know how I get on.
