Hi mg40 what is the paleo diet?

Hi Lcagar63

the following link is a good introduction on an easily understood level. however I personally believe that a healthy and varied diet rich in vegetables is better for us, staying away from processed foods which are high in salt and sugar. We of course need meat but not every day. Also the study that was done on eggs which proclaimed that they were bad for us has been debunked. There were less than 30 people in the study so it was not a fair cohort. I thoroughly enjoy my eggs again cooked anyway but fried.

Hi,

Have you had good success with your diet?

Thanks!

Hi youaremysunshine

Yes, I am 10 kilos lighter than January last year. I am stuck at the moment as I have been eating more starch but hope during the summer months to drop a bit more as more varied salads come in season. I am not overly keen on salads in the winter so tend to have vegetable soups.

Hi Mg40

I am not exactly on the paleo diet but I have cut out a lot of grains and all processed foods also I no longer drink anything fizzy unless it is sparkling water (or wine on the rare occasions :-) ). I feel better for it.

best wishes

Thanks for your reply. I have noticed the day I eat bread and milk in the morning I feel like sleeping right away. When I don't eat wheat then I feel fresh. That's why I thought may be Paleo diet is good solution.

Hi,

I follow more of an autoimmune paleo diet. I feel good for the most part other than being tired, but I am also chasing around a toddler every day. I have no itching or any other symptoms of PBC at this time. I was just diagnosed a couple of months ago.

Good for you. Kiki.

My doctor wants me on Autoimmune Paleo Diet and I just couldn't do it.

Did you give up all grains, dairy, eggs, nuts, sugar, and night shade vegetables?

Have you found any merit to it yet? Has your AMA and LFTs improved?

Thanks,

Jane

Hi Jane.

So I was diagnosed in February of this year. I started a strict AIP diet for 30 days and have added a few things back in on occasion like eggs and onion. I have stayed dairy and gluten free, but I have had a few "treats" on occasion ( I won't lie). I only buy organic fruits and veggies, it's costly but it's worth it to me. The bulk of my diet is a lot of veggies. I eat some combination of spinach, kale, or cruciferous veggies daily and make smoothies, salads, etc. I juice several times a week and juice with beets as they are good for the liver. I'm still refining my diet too. I've been adding in other things in like raw garlic. I believe it's working. I feel really good and have lost weight. ( they recently dropped my urso dose based on weight loss) My AMA was only checked once just prior to diagnosis and it was very high. I will ask to have it rechecked in June when I see the specialist. My lfts went from elevated to normal in 6 weeks using this diet, stress reduction and urso. I believe the diet has helped. I also start my day with warm water, lemon and apple cider vinegar mixture. I have been eating wild caught salmon too. I'm not a big meat eater, so I eat chicken a couple times a week. I take a fish oil supplement, as well as a good multivit, b complex, coq10,probiotics. I'm looking into a few others, but I'm trying to do one thing at a time.

I hope this helps. I'm researching like crazy on what I can do to keep it in early stages!

Thanks for your detailed reply. This really helps. I strongly believe that Paleo diet and exercise can help us all. Doctors done suggest anything but I think diet has a great role.

Thanks again

You are welcome! Diet is so important. I've been learning a lot about food, and how bad foods are, like processed foods, the pesticides that are in non-organic fruits and veggies, etc. I've been eating healthy for years, but this has really made me change my diet more. I find that I'm not craving the bad foods anymore. I crave veggies and fruits a lot more now. It takes time to adjust and it is hard work and a lot of planning but it gets easier.

Are there no carbohydrates in your diet?

There are carbohydrates in fruit and veggies, like bananas, sweet potatoes, etc. I try and stay away from most grains, but occasionally I will have some gluten free oatmeal or toast.

Thanks for your detailed response, Kiki.

I have been gluten free for 2+ years now. I also eat organic food most the time. I am mostly dairy free but occasionally would put blue cheese on my salad. There's one thing I can't give up - eggs. My LTFs never been too high but I do have dilated bile duct. Not sure how I am going to evaluate if diet is helping or not.

Raw juicing cause me acid reflux so I don't do it too often. It's encouraging to know someone can really stick to the program and get solid result. Please keep us posted.

Thanks,

Jane

Hi,

I do not use a specific cook book. I will find recipes online mostly, including Pinterest. There are some good paleo/autoimmune paleo recipes on that site.
