After reading through some of the posts, I've seen where some people take a certain form of urso and others take a different type. How many types of Urso are out there? The label on my bottle says generic for urso forte. I take (2) 500mg tablets a day with food.
What are all the different types of Urso? - PBC Foundation
What are all the different types of Urso?
I take a brand called ursofalk 4x250mg
I was told to take all four at once but it made my liver very painful so I take twice daily.
I take Ursofalk and I take 5x250mg tablets a day
I take Galen tablets 150mg. I have taken capsules before but had a reaction is the fillers and got terrible hives .. Galen stop production every once in awhile so had to swap to another tablet, can't remember which one.
I take 5 a day and tend to take all at once at night as I always forget the rest of the day.
My bloods are stable and just above normal so it works for me.
Xx
These are really not different "types", more like different brands. Urso Forter is considered real "brand". Here in the US, the cost of Urso Forte, 90 days supply, 1000mg/day costs about $1,400. I take Actavis, which is one of the major "generic" brands. The cost is about 3 times less than Urso Forte. It's the same active ingredient, but, the fillers could be different.
Hello andrea83, I am in the UK and there are brands of the urso or generics of them. Ursofalk apparently comes in 250mg multiples and I think various forms (ie capsules/tablets) and then there is the 150mg tablets, etc.
I originally (December 2010) started on 300mg tablets (( take 600mgs daily) and they were branded Urdox then. Then about 18mths later they went to generics, same pharma and I had no problem. That is the ursodeoxycholic acid is the same be it brand or generic, but as all different pharmas, they can vary in the fillers that are used to make the tablets, capsules, etc. Generically produced drugs are cheaper to the UK NHS so if available we tend to be given those.
The 300mgs I used to take were withdrawn due to production issues and there was no other 300mgs on the market at the time so I had to have a prescription for 150mgs and still have to date. The original ones I was given from what has always been a generically wrote prescription (ursodeoxycholic acid) were branded (Destolit) and I had no problems taking. When I got my next prescription they came in pharmacy labelled bottles and I found they were generics and by a company Galen. I encountered 3 months of heartburn, so much so that I asked my GP if I could have the branded ones. She started writing Destolit on my prescriptions and I still have those to date. It was more than likely the fillers in the tablets that were the cause as the urso is the same in them all. If you are fine with the generics then OK but for some of us we do find that certain ones we don't quite get along with.
I have experimented with the urso myself over the last 6 years and find that it is better to portion them out in the day as opposed to taking all at once. I have for the last 6 months taken 1 x 150mgs with breakfast, 1 x 150mgs with lunch and then an hour after the evening meal the final 2 x 150mgs. Seems to work OK for me. I did once take them all at once with breakfast after reading in Bear Facts you can take them all ways. Easier if you are forgetful all at once but in my case for several days I did this, I just got severe heartburn a couple hours later, so much so that I know it was the urso in excess. (I was taking the urso twice daily from the beginning of starting urso and continued so when my 300mgs went to 150mgs so know with the generics of the 150mgs originally it was not how I was taking them.)
As far as I am aware we only have the one brand, 'Ursofalk', here in Australia - I take 5 x 250mg per day.
I take Ursofalk 4 x 250 and I take at bedtime, as per instructions in packet. To-date have had no reactions to this - long may it continue.
Thanks for the replies. I'm kind of confused by the label on mine. It says ursodiol, MFR: PAR PHARM.
