Hello jen23lilly.

Personally I'd speak to your doctor before embarking on any form of attempts to diet.

I say this due to the fact if it is due to your thyroid issue then more than likely a doctor is the only one who cold offer some sound advice here.

Tried talking to the doctor before and all I get is my levels are where they should be so they can't see why I can't loose the weight.

Hi jen23lilly,

I also have Pbc and under active thyroid and diabetic, it's really hard to lose weight normally but with under active thyroid and Pbc it's even harder. But I went on a diet as part of a trial and lost almost two stone. It was really hard as I have a sweet tooth but it was the Cambridge diet of shakes and bars.

It caused all sorts of unpleasant reactions but constipation was the worst. Now I have gout added to my illnesses lol but I lost weight.

To be fair I've put on about half a stone since eating normally again, i.e. Real food, but I've cut down my portion sizes and always drink water after every mouthful this helps slow down my eating, it takes time but it works.

Fad diets are not worth the risks to health but sensible eating is best.

I bought a small plate to help with portion sizes as I do like to fill the plate. And half is full of veg.

Good luck.

When I was diagnosed with PBC about 6 yrs ago I asked my consultant if I could take them and he said yes , I went on to lose 3 stone but I don't know if it was the tablets or the stabbing pain I got while eating which made me eat less. It's funny because last week I bought some more ( I haven't taken them for 5 years ) I would now like to lose more weight so I thought I'd take them again to see if they helped this time .......will let you know. Oh and I take tablets because I couldn't cope with drinking it in tea form.
