working with a qualified trainer helps a lot.
Qualified trainer ??
I was lucky enough to find someone who was a kinesiologist and had a physiotherapist
degree. He is aware of PBC and knows how to find and read medical journals. We started with mobility exercises gently in Feb/19 and are now adding weight bearing exc.
I feel a lot stronger and have lost 10 lbs . This past sunday we have started running for 15 sec intervals resting in between . The mobility exercises continue along with mild core exercises. My metabolism is generally faster due to the sessions. My class is on sunday and I also go 2 to 3 times during the week. Its helped a lot . I would have quit
long ago if I didn't have a trainer as at times its painful and uncomfortable. But its getting better and I now look forward to it, I have to as Ive paid for it, Trust me when I say that my DNA is not made for exercise. Best investment ever.
That sounds good yes I walk every day plus I go swimming three times a week which I really enjoy
I don't think it is pbc related; weight issues are common as we age. Additionally, most of us with pbc also suffer from thyroid issues which is a known issue for difficulty in losing weight when one is hypo. My endocrinologist suggested intermittent fasting as a weight loss strategy along with eating a clean diet.
Hi
I am also struggling with weight loss. Diagnosed with PBC last Aug and started on Urso. Had lost 3st 8 lbs prior to this but cannot seem to lose any more. Spoke to doctor and she says Urso is not the culprit. I have a very active job, eat healthily and walk a lot with my dogs. I'll just have to keep trying as I really don't want to put the weight back on. I'm sure I read about weight gain and Urso a while ago on here. Good luck and hope you have success, it's good to know others share the same problems.
Urso absolutely causes weight gain in some of us. I'm finding it extremely difficult to lose what I've gained from urso too.
I have gone through the same thing and it sucks! I was already exercising quite a bit and still do, so it wasn’t that. When your liver is mucky and can’t process things away a normal person can, you can absolutely gain weight more easily and with aging it is then harder to lose it. I have recently lost 20 pounds in two months just from changing my diet. I eat very clean, But the more you lose the more your metabolism fires in your body is a little bit more forgiving. I did an immuno coming diet which tested my blood for food sensitivities, basically took everything toxic out and slowly added food back in. The first couple weeks were easy but it is well worth it with the results. I look better I feel better, I feel like my old self again . Was even able to do all of that is starting off on 40 mg of prednisone a day dropping down to 20. My itching has never been better and my numbers have never been better
Hi, unfortunatelly urso makes you gain weight, lose hair ......It actually says it on the side effect of the drug on the packet.
Hi Purdy2017, there’s research that observed some weight gain with Urso, but I recall that it wasn’t very substantial or ongoing. In other words, the effect may be small. I agree with the suggestion that more than one factor may be at work here. But sounds like you’re doing great with your exercise! I don’t think weight is everything, your fitness level and muscle strength matter too.
Hi Purdy, Sorry to hear you're distressed about weight. You say that you're struggling to eat the right things? Does this mean you crave sugary food? Or any other particular type of food? It is often complicated, the reasons for putting on weight and how to lose it. It sounds like you know you should be eating differently so you've solved that bit. The next stage is to decide if you want to eat differently and if so, make a plan of what you will eat instead. Make the plan that seems do-able for you. Some people can cut out added sugar immediately, some need to taper it off gradually. Choose what works for you every step of the way. Avoid worrying about it, or struggling or letting it get you down by taking the action that you choose to change the situation. Focus on getting your own way over this, because you can. Please let us know how you are doing!
