Hi Juliepervin. Recently I had pain under my right rib, when I was at my annual Gastro Consultant appt I mentioned it and he said "do you have dark urine / pale stools"? He thought it could possibly be gall bladder/gall stones but an ultrasound proved negative. It might be worth asking your GP if they will test a sample for you? It's probably just a sign you need to drink more fluids?

Hi, There could be a few reasons why you have dark urine. One of my reasons is I am diabetic, the consultant told me to drink plenty of water. It could also be one of your medicines. Just an idea.

Yes i do too esp when i can't get in enough fluids. I also put it down to my medications and mine is always worse in the mornings. The other thing that happens from time to time is i get a uti and this also makes my urine dark as it contains blood. If you suspect things not to be normal its a simple procedure to give your nurse or Doctor a sample for testing. I understand from my blood tests that i have for my pbc that some of the things measured are about kidney function. Some of mine are frequently up and there is a foot note to say there may be early kidney damage. So if in doubt go get the urine and bloods tested. Not worth waiting till damage is done.

Yes I have dark urine PBC stage 2 I have been checked for kidney disease and it's negative so I think it may be a side effect of the PBC and or the URSO.

Hello. You MUST drink more water!

I'm trying to drink at least 1 - 2 litres a day. Helps clean your system. On the days I don't drink enough water, my urine is dark.

So, make sure you drink lots of water. I know it's boring, but add fresh lemon juice too, that's nice. Good luck.

Well to back up some others definitely drink more. Mornings are often darker but with more water things start to lighten up. I had some tests recently at my docs and he always tests the renal system as well as liver. Never does any harm to refer to your GP though - hoping you have a decent one as some will tell you they are not all the same! Welcome to the group.

Collect your urine in a cup with a lid. If the color is amber and the urine appears to be forming bubbles like it is soapy, then it contains bilirubin.

Yes,bilirubin. That's serious. Google it.
