That's normal for PBC just ask the doctor for cholestyramine it absorbs the excess cholesterol and bile which stops the itch and hives we get when we eat fats and sugars...we must avoid salt fat and sugars and dairy as these cause inflammation and make out joints ache

Hello andy788.

If you have diagnosed PBC the itch tends to be one of the common symptons of it (fatigue is too).

I started itching intensely early 2010 and by the end of the year I was diagnosed with PBC due to also having above normal LFTs (liver function test) plus GGT and antibodies (AMAs).

Now my itch doesn't cause any marks on the skin when I feel itchy. I do have certain marks where I have itched previously (or currently). As far as I know being itchy with PBC doesn't cause any visible external signs except a patient scratching/rubbing the areas.

You may be causing the appearance of the marks by scratching. If you feel it is unbearable then you need to speak with your doctor who as already stated by the first respondent you can try some medication. I've not had any medications yet as with colestryamine (or Questran as it was branded) it can be a case of it works for some but not others. For me I do not want to deal with any side-effects from adding another regular medication to the urso.

I had the same thing all over and it was miserable. My doctor prescribed Cholestramine and it has helped tremendously!

Andy - I am stage 4 and take a drug for the itching. However, I didn't get the script filled on time and could not control the itching. When I looked in the mirror it looked like tiny insect bites. I guess as the disease progresses so do some strange symptoms.

But it will pass. Good luck
