This appeared on my Facebook page yesterday with lots of interesting comments. I was never sure about the name change and it does appear to have thrown up its own problems for some people.

Hi, just read the article. I've only been diagnosed with PBC a short time and have only mentioned my diagnosis to a few necessary people. As I read the article I remembered how I felt as I said the words Primary Biliary Cirrhosis and quickly followed that up with "but it's not an alcohol related disease". Nice to know there is another term I can use to describe my condition which may not have the same stigma. Thanks for sharing!

My GP said to tell people I have an auto immune disease or just say PBC but when people ask what that is it is easier now because cholangitis.with the itis on the end indicates inflammation to people rather than alcoholism.
