Hi There, was wondering if anyone in the community has osteo as well as PBC, I can't take the oral medication for the Osteo or the PBC, so now I have been offered a yearly infusion of Zoledronic Acid, but am quite worried about the side effects, anyone had this treatment?

Osteoporosis
Hi Jaycee, yes I have osteoporosis. Diagnosed 3 years ago not long after PCB diagnosis. They sent me for Dexa to monitor side effects of steroids and discovered I already had it. Was on s monthly tablet until early this year, that reversed it in spine slightly but not hips, now on weekly tab which has much better results. No negative side effects whatsoever. In any event the advantages totally outweigh the disadvantages. Why can't you take orally? I would definitely go for the infusion (I often have to get iron they way) it's s no brainier as far as I'm concerned.
Hi Junolee, Thanks for your reply, I can't take the weekly tabs as they gave me terrible chest pains and damaged my gullet,so had to stop, I have really bad Osteo in my back, I am one of those unfortunate people who get side effects from all the meds I am given, I can't take the Urso either, I've also been given high dose vit.D and am having problems with that as well, that's why I am concerned about the yearly infusion, I've had lots of replies re this and they have all been positive, so I think I probably will have it. Thanks again, Best Regards
Hi, Jaycee. I have PBC and osteoporosis. I take the oral biphosphate risedronate and urso, both with no side effects. My cousin can't take the oral biphosphate so she has the yearly infusion with no side effects.
Hi Pixieblake, Thanks for your reply, very helpful, Regards
I have pbc and osteoporosis in the lower spine. I got diagnosed last july with osteoporosis but cannot start medication until I have work done on my teeth. I had to wait months for a nhs appointment and now the dentist has refered me to the hospital for work so could have to wait another 3 months. So I'll be starting on weekly fosamax after dental work.
I went to local surgery this morning to have a chat about having zolondronic infusion. After a long disscussion I have decided to try the treatment. I asked about side effects because that's what really worries me. Was told that might have cold or flu symptoms for a couple of days. Unlike tablets that go into your blood this goes into your bones so you don't get the side effects. Said they have really good results.
Hi There, I''ve had this treatment twice now, and if anyone was going to get side effects it will be me, I can't even take the Urso, but I can honestly say, I didn;t have ONE side effect, you are in and out in half an hour, so please don;t worry about it, it;s a breeze. Good Luck.
