Hello, went into surgery for routine blood tests to be told I was eligible for pneumonia vaccination (one off) as well as for flu (this in UK ) This was new to me. Has anyone knowledge or experience with tis in relation to PBC and its toll on the liver?
pneumonia vaccination: Hello, went into... - PBC Foundation
pneumonia vaccination
My husband and I had both last year, he had no after effects but I had a very painful arm for quite a while. Perhaps the injection had just hit the wrong spot as it hurt going in and my husband didn`t feel a thing with his. Otherwise no problems with having PBC.
Hello Wispa123.
Yes with now having PBC we are apparently classed as in one of the categories to be offered the 'flu jab and/or pneumonia.
I was offered back in 2011 (diagnosed Dec 2010) but I have so far not taken up the vaccinations.
I have my own views on certain things and vaccinations over the years are something I tend to think carefully about.
I have never been prone to colds and can't recall ever having 'flu and been the same since I was diagnosed with PBC in 2010. I don't want to have the vaccinations and then feel that I might have started something off.
It is a personal choice entirely whether you have these vaccinations when offered.
I should add that I did discuss it with my consultant first and followed his advice. But as Peridot said, it is another personal choice for you to consider.
Hello Wispa123,
I have read your post with regards to the pneumonia vaccination, if you wish to discuss with my colleague Robert, I have sent you his contact details in a private message.
Thank you
Best wishes

I have the flu jab every year, had pneumo jab last year, bit of a sore arm with that but otherwise no problems.
Hi yes me and my husband as had its 7 years ago
I first had both jabs in 2009 as I was diagnosed with Hepatic sarcoidosis then later in the year I was diagnosed with PBC. I've had the flu jab every year since, with no side effects.
Thank you Dinny, that's very helpful.
I have a flu jab annually and have had the one off pneumonia jab. No problems at all. Just about to book for this years one. I just think the protection it offers is great. I don't want anything else to lay me low if I can possibly avoid it.
We have the flu jab every year but up to now havent been offered the pneumonia one as yet, unless GP sneaked one in :o)
hi, Dollydaydreams,
Thank you . the Pneumonia vaccination is apparently new this year? proabably worth asking your GP if you want one.
Hi wispa
I nusually have flu injection and had pneumonia vac.a few years ago. The latter is usually meant to last forever. I have not has any problems with either and am end stage PBC. The complications associated with both illnesses are things I prefer to avoid as I already have respiratory problems.
I had it when diagnosed last year. Xx
I have had PBC since 2005 and have availed of flu jab every yr with no side effects. Four years ago i got pneumonia jab which lasts for 10 years on the advice of my GP
