anemia??

Hi -- I am a life-long borderline anemic gal -- always, on and off, all my 54 years --- wondering how many others Are either borderline or Are anemic? --

In Addition i have a Factor 7 deficiency ((meaning it takes me longer to stop bleeding then normal folk) -- anyone else have a blood disorder too?

Hi,

Never had a problem with anemia until the back end of last year. Dr took bloods for several things and it came back that I was anemic. Did loads of other tests to see why but nothing showed up so presume it was to do with the liver coping with iron. I now take a 210mg iron tablet each day and its brought it up to just under the normal levels.

i've taken Iron (in liquid and iron tabs) over my years, and my body does not tolerate it well -- glad you can take it -- interesting that you have the issue also -

All I can say about anemia that I have had it twice. The first time I was pregnant, and was given the B12 shots. The next time is about 13yrs ago, and I started taking a multivitamin. I can't even eat meat except poultry and fish, and it still my blood count is good. When I was pregnant, I can remember, even my vision was affected, and the fatigue was great.

i was treated for anemia for 2 years before my levels were at a decent level. i had been to the doctor assuming that the aches and pains in hips and legs and constant tiredness was down to the menopause. he sent me for a blood test and my iron level was 6 but i also had positive AMA which he told me not to worry about, 2 yrs later my iron levels were better but i did not feel any better so asked for a referral where i was told i had PBC. my iron levels are up and down all the time but i have regular blood tests (every 6 mnths) to keep an eye on it. i also have to keep an eye on the vit D levels.

so i wonder, do we have these bouts of anemia Because of the PBC, or just coincidentally -- since i literally began with it in my single digits age --

PBC is associated with a poor absorbtion of various vitamins, I've read that can also be a cause of anemia.

yes, as an adult i am aware of this fact -- as an 8 yr old girl tho, i was not -- if PBC is a 10 yr per stage disease, as my Dr Palmer (melissa palmer, the liver specialist, now retired) told me, and i am between stage 2 and stage 3, i've had this for about 20 to 30 yrs and as i am 54 now, i didn't have it at age 8 -- just my bad luck --

I have read posts elsewhere to say that with PBC the liver does not cope with these things very well but have no idea whether this is true or not.

zip, cope with What things?? -- i'm drawing a duhhhh-moment here - thanks
