Had PBC for eighteen months then in October 2014 had a transplant. Can PBC come back. Also is PBC related to stress in anyway ?

Hello 26smith.

Apparently PBC remains with us for life currently unless there is a cure. It can present again in future after transplant but with PBC I think we never really know certain things.

I don't think PBC is related to stress. I think you can create a few minor problems in having PBC and then having stressful situations.

Hope you are doing well after transplant. I'd try to get on with life now and hopefully you can have some respite in currently feeling free of PBC minus the symptons that we can get associated with it (I itch, always have since early 2010 when that is how I was diagnosed with PBC).

Hi, yes it can. My sister had a transplant and was notified a year later that she again had PBC. The second time round though the symptoms were greatly reduced i.e. No itch etc. hope this helps😊

Hi 26 Smith

It's tinyScot here and I had a transplant on 5th July. Back home all going well. Itch gone as well as other noticeable improvements. However as with your other replies PBC does remain, but you now have a new liver to work on, so make the most of it and Very best wishes for the future.

Congratulations on a successful transplant, don't stress yourself worrying about stress or PBC coming back.

Get on with living and enjoying this special gift you have been given.

Take your new liver on a holiday while you are well enough because if it does comes back you will have no regrets and if it doesn't you'll have had an awesome time.

Cheers

Hello 26smith

I had a transplant end of last year and I was visited by a few mentors who are part of the group at Kings and all have had transplants. I was grateful for their visits whilst in hospital. One of them received her transplant over 20 years ago and has no reoccurrence of PBC. One was 10 years since transplant and no reoccurrence. Although I understand PBC can come back after transplant, I took great heart from meeting these people, who give their time voluntary. Good people! Good luck 26smith!
