Is anyone being treated with Azathioprine f... - PBC Foundation
Is anyone being treated with Azathioprine for PBC as I thought this was just a treatement for AIH & Urso was the only drug available for PBC
Hi
I was diagnosed with AIH in Denmark and put on a high dose prednisolone. When I came back to the UK I was put on Azathioprine and weaned off prednisolone. I wasn't happy on Azathioprine as it made me ill. I got a second opinion and had more tests. It was then said I had AIH/PBC overlap. I was taken off Azathioprine as I wasn't responding to it and prescribed Urso. I was responded more to the Urso and therefore told that I had only PBC and was being treated for that.
It would be a good idea to chat to your consultant to find out more details.
Hope this helps you.
I have pbc/aih crossover so only drug that I can take for aih is azathioprine. For the pbc I was immediately put on questran for the itch and urso. I eventually had such side bad effects I had to come off i urso. Have tried every other drug for pbc the specialist gave me and all made me very ill. So only on questran which works, never have an itch unless I run out. Which happens due to manufacturer some times.
I actually have PBC/AIH overlap syndrome so I am on Budenofalk and Azathioprine for the AIH and Urso for the PBC. I just wondered if the Azathioprine would also help the PBC as it is a autoimmune suppressant so would also stop the blood from attacking the bile ducts as well as the liver cells?
