Please can somebody clarify the 'itching' with PBC. Is there a rash? or are there no marks on the skin?

Hi swmartinfor me the itch feels like insects crawling on the skin no rash only redness due to scratching .
Hi when the itching is bad I get little white bumps on my hands. And also in between my fingers they feel as the are swollen and my joints in my fingers feel stiff.
Hello swmartin.
Well when I started to itch early 2010 I had nothing to show for it except with a bit of passing time a few spots where blood had been spotting.
To me it felt like I'd either thrown myself in nettles or was being stung with several wasps. No sooner had I reached and tiched where it was feeling prickly than I started elsewhere and the cycle goes on.
These days my legs below my knees in particular show signs of the itch over the last almost 5yrs. I have little whitish tiny spot-like scars due to them healing up and then being scratched again, like a vicious circle. At the moment my legs are looking good but for a few reddish tiny scars that are healing. But I noticed early week that my skin has got a bit tough now and find these days in those areas I don't bleed like I used to do.
Good question swmartin. Normally I get very mild occasional itching - mostly in my ears or around my head and I notice it is worse if I have eaten chocolate or lots of sweet or rich food. Sometimes it is accompanied by itchy red spots.
However a few weeks back I was smothered in an angry red rash which came up in the evening and kept me awake until 3 in the morning when it disappeared and this was repeated the following day. I immediately adjusted to my diet to very bland food and drank lots of water and I am unclear whether this was an allergic reaction to something or the pbc. I haven`t had it since but I am getting in some Ranitidine as it helped Curlymac who had something similar.
swmartin, I think it may be different for everyone. For me, it was an uncontrollable itch on my lower legs from knees to ankles that would worsen just as I was going to bed. I tried every possible lotion, cream, etc. and nothing helped. My lower legs are scarred from the scratches made unintentionally while sleeping. Now, my legs are less bothersome (thank goodness!) but the itching inside my ear canal is frustrating. Oh, well...life goes on!
Hi swmartin
I feel like my skin is crawling and little electric with little electric shocks. I itch but then it's somewhere else. It seems relentless some days especially if I get hot in bed. It is also worse at night for me. I use lots of moisturizer to try and help as my skin dries out quickly especially my feet.
It's very annoying!
Thanks to everyone for the replies. I do have little itches like those described but not widespread or serious. I do have a rash - hence the question. I saw the doctor yesterday and she thinks that it is vasculitis - still not good news!
I don't get itching everyday thank goodness, but when I do it's all over my body. One second an ankle, then my inner elbows, then my neck. Random & unpredictable but shoulders possibly more than any other area. Apart from diet, over-moisturising made my shoulders worse, so I backed right off. And ambient room temperature I found had a huge impact when the plumber fiddled and left the thermostats on 20 degrees accidentally! Took me 2 days to work out what on earth was wrong - vicious itching to the point I thought I was going crazy. Now itching much better in a cooler environment, especially keeping the bedroom at about 16 degrees.
I haven't had a rash with the itching but I have had a rash for about 4 months in a triangle at the base of my neck. Looks like sunburn at a distance but isn't - tiny veins that go white when you press and then back to red. Never had anything like it before. Anyone else had anything similar?
All I can say it's like it comes from the inside outwards. & you can't see anything. My arms are the worst.
From what I understand is, there could be a rash or not.
Don’t people have a rash and some don’t, impersonally never had s rash, but the itch is unforgiving. I don’t want to say too much, 97% itch dissipated, I use different supplements, CBD and cannabis oil at night. If your wondering what supplements, Dr Burt Berkson wrote books, his protocol is in a few of them, can find online. I personally see Burt Berkson, Dr Burt Berkson brilliant man, check him out.
cannabis oil or vape stops itching in its tracks!!!!!!!
