Hi,

The past few days I have developed a rash all over my arms its really itchy, has anyone else had this? Also I was told I had PBC last year through blood tests but my consultant has confused me because the last time I seen him he said my bloods we slightly rasied on the otherside amd he would check for AIH but my doctor said he tested me for that through blood test ages ago and it was negative. Could this have been missed and would my consultant knpw through my lft's that I had AIH aswell?

I have overlap syndrome with pbc and aih. I have had the odd itchy rash and certainly used to get it more before diagnosis and treatment. Since treatment I have only had it a couple of times but I don't know if related to liver conditions (i do sometimes get an allergic rash but usually know the cause) have you checked it out at pharmacy in case it is an allergic reaction? The pbc itch which I luckily rarely get tends to be less of a rash (unless I scratch it and hurt the skin) . If your not sure I think you need professional opinion.

Don't know if that helps.

Hi,

Yes I have had it checked out by my doctor who thinks its just an allergy. How were you diagnosed with aih?

The biopsy confirmed pbc but the bloods indicated aih. When Urso only worked for couple months and liver tests started to get worse again specialist said that confirmed it. So just get treatment for aih and bloods have been stable a couple of years now.x

My blood points to PBC via positive AMA and previously elevated enzyme levels; there is nothing indicating AIH (I haven't had positive ANA since 2008). However, my biopsy pointed more to AIH, but did show bile duct damage which could point to PBC. To date, I've had minimal itching and am NOT on Urso or steroids, because my liver enzymes have dropped back into normal range (which my doctor believes can be attributed by a much cleaner, GF diet.) It's all very odd when we compare ourselves to one another. . .
