I was diagnose with Pbc stage 1 yesterday . I start ursodol. I am planing to undergo to do weight loss surgery? Does it help to reduce weigh
Hello Alousha.
Well from a logically point of view, an ideal weight and having PBC would probably be preferable.
Although ursodeoxycholic acid or urso (I've noticed in USA it can be known as UDCA) as it can be shortened to helps with the digestion of fats with it being a component of bile, regarding our weight, it appears some with PBC and on urso can lose weight and others have stated that they have gained a bit of weight on urso.
I think a lot depends on the person with PBC. For myself, I did lose a bit of weight (half a stone) during 2010 but I contributed that to working over my allotted full-time working week and then moving about all night due to the itch which was considerably worse than it is currently.
I've not gained any weight since starting urso and over time even tho' I eat healthily and don't over-indulge and never eat to feel really uncomfortably full, I reckon it is due to being on the go all the time as for me that stands for no itching. If I wake during the night I start to feel the itch I tend to pop to the bathroom and then on my return to bed, the itch doesn't appear to be with me so I then more often than not in recent months go back to sleep again.
Now we have PBC we need to make sure we have adequate nutrients otherwise certain vitamins and also calcium can cause things like bone problems.
I expect only a consultant would know the answer to your question on weight loss surgery and if you were thinking on having that, then a nutritionalist would probably advise you on the best course of action following.
There might be someone on this site who could help you further there.
Hi
Just wondering if you had the weight loss surgery or if you found out any more information of how PBC patients were affected by it.
