I recently had my gallbladder removed as it was damaged from a gallstone.
They also did a liver biopsy because I had abnormal liver function tests. The results said minor cell changes. What does this mean?

You should ask the doctor might be pbs lots of people have this don't panic lots of help on this
Hello blossompossum.
Obviously your doctor will know more.
I'd have thought if you had PBC as that can be one cause for abnormal LFTs and minor liver cell changes you would perhaps have been informed alongside the information of minor cell damage. But also given you had a gallbladder problem, it could just be that your LFTs were testing out as abnormal due to that, bile leaking back into the liver causing irritation and the minor cell damage.
I expect you have a further out-patient appt with the specialist to discuss more in-depth your results so you should find out then.
It does sound at present from your question that you are perhaps asymptomatic (of PBC), that is without any symptons that you know of (not counting the abnormal LFTs as we do not know about those ourselves without a blood check). I had the LFT check along with full blood count (FBC) when I saw a doctor back in 2010 when I was feeling very fatigued and was itching too much.
Normally someone with diagnosed PBC is started on ursodeoxycholic acid if they are symptomatic and with abnormal LFTs. Yours might just be (though please note I am no medic) a case that your LFTs may start to return to normal following the gallbladder removal so that could possibly be the reason for delay?
Thank you. They did a cholangiogram when they removed my gallbladder and the surgeon said my bile ducts were outstanding and in perfect condition. The specialist does not suspect pbc. My AMA and ana were both negative and the only things abnormal in my lft was the alp and ggt.
Thankyou peridot
Sorry Blossompossum, but having only been recently diagnosed myself I know very little about this disease. It does sound as though it could be something to do with your gall bladder operation. Good luck anyway. I have recently received lots of information from the PBC foundation so am just starting to read it, so far I've found it very informative.
