Does anyone know if absorption of Urso is reduced if taking bile acid sequestering agents, such as cholestyramine (for itching)?

When I was first put on Questran (colestyramine) I was told by the consultant I had to take it either 4 hours before the Urso or more than 1 hour after so have always had it 1 hour or more after Urso and other meds.

Thank-you, so much, doctor made the prescription weeks ago but failed to mention this fact and was taking it around the same time. Was not able to get in touch with doctor once I read about the possible reduced absorption of Urso. I will take one hour after going forward.

Also, should itching stop, ,does one go on taking as a precaution or stop all together?

My itching as never gone completely while taking Questran, but i must say if i do miss a few days the itch is unbearable,so i think with me i will have to take it all the time, but everyone is so different,i don't really want to take it all the time but no choice else i would go out of my mind with the itch.Good luck with it x

I think it helps with the itching. I also notice a difference when I havent taken it.

I mix mine with a little cordial to make it taste a bit better. :-)

I am under the impression that if I take 2 Questran before breakfast the itching is much less. The Urso (1 g) I take all together in the evening.

I also found out that the itching is worse when I'm stressed and tired, it all seems to hang together...

I never am without itching, but still, the difference without the Questran is huge! If I miss one day, it's worse for 3 or 4 days... so from now on, I never stop taking it...

Good luck!

I have to agree about when stressed and tired, it's worse. I guess, it's a life long necessity and not trust that just because the itching stops, the medication should stop.........it just means Questran is working and to continue with it.

Thank-you, and good luck to you too!
