Cyanocobalamin vs. Methylcobalamin

I keep seeing posts asking which type of B12 is best so I thought I'd post a link to this video. Ignore the first part where the doctor says oral supplementation is just as good as injections, he's wrong. The rest of it is full of interesting information regarding B12. nutritionfacts.org/video/th...

Yrs difficult to think the rest of the information is correct with such a blatant statement at the start saying oral12 is better than b12 Injections !

I agree but the rest of the information is taken from studies not his own research.

I agree with you Nackapan . Also saying that Cynocobalamin is superior to Methylcobalamin. We know that different types of B12 suit different people . He doesn’t seem to mention Pernicious Anaemia patients . Very biased choice of articles which agree with him .

" Ignore the first part" you say. So is there any good reason to believe what comes after?

well the bit about hydroxy being better than cyano for smokers made me laugh! no evidence for that at all as far as I am aware and possible that its likely to be cyano that is preferable because none of it is going to be 'used' converting the trace amounts of cyanide ingested from smoking (its used in the processing of tobacco) into cyanocobalamin.

I think the article would probably be okay for someone who doesn't have an absorption problem but absorption problems make things much more complicated.

On injections v oral- there is one large scale study that showed significant numbers preferring high dose to injections (60%+) - for them it is better its just that there are significant numbers of people who find that high dose oral doesn't work for them. There is no way of predicting who is going to fall into what category as other smaller studies show the same pattern across the whole gamut of absorption problems, implying that the effectiveness of passive absorption is not related to the main absorption process. I believe it is important to bear this in mind so people really are in a position to make an informed decision about treatment options.

I have used all three - methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin & cyanocobalamin (what I started with at my doctor's office).

It is very individual 💯. First, methylcobalamin made me feel cuckoo for cocoa pops. Others love it. Hydroxocobalamin could literally feel how it holds on better than cyanocobalamin but it made me constipated & was awful for my skin.. Could not deal with either. Obviously does not affect others the same way. Who would deal with those issues over time? Cyanocobalamin, washroom is good and skin is incredible. And it is cheap, which I need ($5 over the counter here for one month) The only issue I have with it is feeling a bit wired & I take care of that by exercising right away.

So completely.individual.
