Is it best to increase b12 when you have a virus or an infection?

I'd love some advice on this πŸ™ I've currently got a massive shingles outbreak - legs, arms and torso with lots of sharp tingles and sore. No blisters. I think this is due to low immune system and anxiety.

I SI EOD as I'm still doing loading doses (5 weeks so far) but today (SI was yesterday) I've got neuropathy again in feet. Would it a good plan to SI every day till the shingles is gone? Do we use more B12 when we are fighting infections?

Thank you!! πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’πŸ’

We all react differently , but I would definitely increase B12 injections with any sort of stress , be it physical or mental . You know that you cannot overdose B12 , so no worries there . I wish you a speedy recovery from that horrible infection . Ive had it twice in my life so far . It is horrible . . You are entitled to a free NHS SHINGLES VACCINE IF YOU HAVE A WEAKENED IMMUNE SYSTEM , OR ARE OVER 70 and under 80. ( Β£460.00 for the 2 vaccinations privately if you don’t meet the criteria ) It can come back again as you can never get rid of the virus .

You should get antiviral tablets. Acyclovir or similar .from your GP . Take paracetamol.

Speedy recovery to you .

Thank you!! I saw pharmacist who diagnosed mild shingles. It's extensive though! I reckon 30% of my body, both sides. I think it's called something like decentralised shingles. He said if gets worse go back and he'll prescribe antivirals. I'm taking L-Lysine as the virus hates it. Staying off citrus, nuts, cheese and choccy as the virus loves these. I got it years ago when my mum had a catastrophic stroke and read up on it. I reckon stress from B12 journey, SI, GP etc plus lowered immune led to it. I nearly had the shingles jab before Xmas but opted for covid. The wrong choice!!

Oh, so antivirals are one of the medications that pharmacists can prescribe . I would want to take them asap , and not wait in till the symptoms might worsen .

Thanks - I will do that as it is still spreading. I'll ring him tomorrow

Exactly, my doc said that they have to be treated promptly for the antivirals to work πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

HiI had the Shingles vaccine in October last year yet had my fifth outbreak of it in December! I had my B12 injection about the same time but I think it was less effective because of it.

This last outbreak of Shingles was definitely the worst I've experienced and the pain has lingered at the site.

Horrible!! I Hope the neuropathy has now gone! It's nasty. It reminds me of how bad neuropathy was before started EOD injections!!

strangely , I was living in Vienna when I had my first bout of shingles in 1966 . My doctor there told me that the only treatment for shingles was β€”β€”β€” Injections of VITAMIN B12 ! I had about 7 or eight injections . I’d never heard of vitamin B12 before and could never have guessed how important B12 would be to me later in life .

Very odd!! Given I've had lots of B12 recently you'd think I wouldn't have got it!! πŸ™„πŸ«€πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

Same here . But it wasn’t supposed to prevent it , just alleviate the pain .

Oh wow! That just would not have occurred to me. Blimey.

Hi Caradoc

Yes! You can’t overdose and excess is peed out but when your body is stressed or overworked it benefits from more B12 - definitely in my experience!

I'm going to inject every day till it's gone. Started over the weekend and today I've got so much more energy.
