Hello again,

Slight update as I hd my repeat blood results back. My folate has slightly increased to 5.4 and B12 slightly increased to 298. My ferritin was 29 and vitamin D wasn’t detectable.

The doctor has prescribed me loading doses of vitamin D 50,000 one a week for six weeks and 5mg folic acid to take every day. The IF result and some others hadn’t come back on Friday. I’m going back to see the doc on Wednesday to discuss full results. Still on haemotologist referral list.

If I take the folic acid and vitamin D will this increase my b12 levels? I’m not sure what he is hoping. He is going to repeat the blood test at a later date to see how these are affecting everything. Surely the results will be raised to normal with this? Or would this not be the case if there’s an absorption/PA issue?

My iron seems low and TSH has been 0.8/0.9 over the last year. He doesn’t seem bothered by this. I have no idea.

The other odd thing is my white blood cell count is still very low lymphocytes now down to 0.82. These are always flagged as low but the doctor doesn’t seem bothered.

Is there a connection with white blood cells and some issue I have going on?

I feel like Miss marple and almost a bit of a hypochondriac nuisance. The most interesting thing is how none of the doctors seem that bothered?!

Any help appreciated.

Thank you 🙏

Yes.More explanations needed to 4cpla8n your symptoms if not bothered by results.

Vit D will make a difference .

I had this first started on a detectable score of 21 should be over 75

Read up on taking folic acid before B12 .

If you've sun get out in it.

You need as much exposure to the skin as possible .

Go on symptom relief as all seem borderline or low to me .

Get a second option

Yes your ferritin is low. My GP thought deficiency symptoms possible anywhere below 60 and my Oral Medicine consultant preferred ferritin to be above 80ug/L.

My GP treated me for low ferritin when my hair was still falling out and gums bleeding after B12 injections had started. My Oral medicine consultant was trying to help with burning tongue and angular cheilitis (sore, split and bleeding mouth especially at corners).

My ferritin was at this time around 35-40.

Hello thanks for sharing this. My hair has got much thinner, and I feel very low in mood.

They just don’t seem to be acknowledging the results.

I have been started on vit d mega doses and folic acid but the tingling in my scalp got worse so I’ve temporarily stopped. I’m seeing the doc in person on Wednesday.

I’m going to ask him for an iron infusion and to start b12 injections. Then I can restart the folic acid.

I feel really depressed and just so low energy I’m spending most of the day in bed unless I have to cook or pick the children up. My work has diminished to barely anything now.

I hope the appointment on Wednesday is helpful. I was going to print out some things to highlight ferritin and b12 in the hope it helps.

Thanks for your reply 🙏

Hello Kiwi47. I didn't read all the comments to your question, but they gave you good advice. In 2023, I was becoming very weak and working a full time at home billing medical claims and coding. Then all of a sudden I couldn't seem to remember things I knew all my career for over 30 years. I started having difficulties. I had an emergency situation where I could not control my emotions (crying for no apparent reason). I had to wear socks to bed and a soft hat due to feeling very cold.Anyway, after the ER incident, I knew something was wrong. My wife and I went to a hematologist who said to my wife your husband is a bit of a hypochondriac. He ordered an intrinsic factor test and of course it was positive. I went to about 6 other doctors who all said my B12 levels were just fine at 293. Those Dr's said they'd give me a B12 shot once a month and check my levels if necessary. My B12 levels at 293 was very alarming. My age is 71 and my levels on lab test show as high at 1800 or so and I'm being told now that I'm taking too much.

Yes, folate is very important and so is finding a GOOD doctor. I am now injecting at least twice a week. Oh, and my toenails have now turned brown and I have lost my "sharpness". People experience various symptoms too. OK, I've written too much.

This B12 madness is somewhat like a chain, whichever B vitamin you are deficient in is the one that makes the chain weaker. Oh, and check out the books by Sallie Pacholoc (couldbit be B12) and Marten Hooper also about B12. Good luck, Mjat
