Hi, davina70, Personally I had no issues as far as intolerance or sensitivity to oral iron supplements. They just didn't work for me. Virtually zero increase in ferratin as I watched my ferritin decrease slowly over time. I eventually ended up with IV iron infusions which delivers iron directly into the bloodstream and bypasses the digestive tract as my solution.

For those of us with PA/AMAG, traditional iron supplements are not be as effective due to the reliance on stomach acid for absorption. Liposomal iron supplements are advertised as having an advantage in these cases by bypassing the need for stomach acid. However I've found little clinical research specifically examining the effectiveness of liposomal iron supplements in individuals with low stomach acid and iron malabsorption.

Read my post on IDWA. If you're at an advanced state of PA with low to no stomach acid then iron malabsorption is most likely your issue.

Not sure if I answered your questions but I did try... 🙃

Best wishes, Rex

Many thanks for your reply,my stomach acid levels weren’t too bad when they were last checked however my stomach certainly dislikes whatever iron I take in whatever form !!

Here in the UK iron infusions are not easily obtainable I guess I might need to pay as I am iron deficient only at the moment .Thanks

davina70: I have a hard time w/ iron tablets, however I have found heme iron capsules do not bother my stomach. I use Proferrin Clear 10.5 mg. The bottle has purplish pink edges. . Also non heme iron by Pure Encapsulatoin Iron-C (15mg) dose not bother my stomach.

You may want to try a different brand of heme iron. 3 Arrows heme iron is another one that is very popular on: The Iron Protocol (for Iron Deficiency with or without Anemia) FB group

Many thanks for your suggestion I think I’m going to try Bisglycinate in liquid drops next . From what I have read this may be more easily absorbed by those with gastric acid issues unless of course anyone knows differently ?

It's all so individual... I tried Bisglycinate and it did absolutely nothing for my levels. I get along well with ferrous sulfate despite other stomach issues.

The Three Arrows one is indeed very popular especially on the thyroiduk forum and seems to raise levels well. It comes from the US and they will ship to the UK threearrowsnutra.com/pages/... I haven't tried it myself.
