Hi

My haemoglobin was 145 -March, ferritin in 40's.

I restarted b12 inj March due to severe neuro symptoms reoccurring after being changed to tablets.

After a fashion! am back to monthly b12 inj. Dec tests showed MCH still overange after 2 mnthly jabs, then 3 months of monthly jabs, which I thought would have improved.

Ferritin keeps jigging abt since, not unusual for me. Been doiwn to 35,up to 120, bk down agn. December it had increased to 54, tho haemoglobin had dropped.

Realising I can't rely on ferritin results as it has varied considerably wk to wk, so am having private blood draw this month for another Iron profile.

Had a period for nearly month in Nov which lowered haem from 135 to 126 which didn't help. Am having 3 mnthly tests with gp to check ferritin, b12(I know:)!) & full blood count.

Out of interest wondering if any diff type if iron treatment is offered if haem goes under 120 please? Or if its just matter of plodding on with iron, etc. I'm not feeling too well & still not sure what's causing what!

At least folate seems to have jumped from 4, to 12 within 3 mnths, so somethings happening!:)

Many thanks once again...

For a PA person your ferritin is low. I aim for around 100. Your low count indicates low iron stores which indicate iron deficiency even if iron levels are 'within range'. This results in anaemia-like symptoms. Rather than a chemical iron, I take elemental or haem iron. Remarkable stuff.

I have a functional b12 def apparently, had one IF test, but negative. Serum level was 608 this year but very poorly, neurological symptoms etc, so could well bevPA?Thank you...ferritin has been 35 so concerned now that haemoglobin lowered and rbc bow bottom ofvrange and yes im someone who experiences liw iron symptoms even when just ferritin is under 50ish.

Thanks for your help.

The intervention point is if your haem drops below 100. When mine dropped to 58, it was three days in hospital and four bags of RBC. To keep me above 90, I now have a weekly bag of RBC, and a shot of Epoetin Zeta.

But what I have is rather more pernicious than PA 😢

Is this classed as low folate?

I'm a little confused about my blood test results. I'm not sure if I am posting in the right group!...
