Low folate but b12 fine

My son is 19 and was diagnosed with a.d.d. and autism at 13. He has difficulty concentrating, anxiety, palpitations, auras, light-headedness, fatigue, difficulty with sleeping (always had poor co-ordination). He's at uni and managing using add meds. I had his blood tested and he was very low in folate. 4.5 low along with vit d. Doctor has just prescribed a supplement and organised a blood test when he goes back to uni. He tells me he often feels nauseous after eating. His other iron levels are good. I'm sat wondering if he actually has add, or was this low folate all along. I wonder if he may have suffered permanent damage if he has had long term low folate. Due to Christmas we haven't got the doctors prescription so got busy b vit b supplement from Holland and Barrett for now. Has anyone else got experience of this and any advice would be gratefully received.

B12 was 401, ferritin 69, folate 4.5,

As far as I can see it has l-methylfolate, so a good choice.

I have ADHD (on top of being a professional who identifies and screens for it) and had deficient folate when tested two years ago. Needless to say improving my folate level did not help my ADHD symptoms.

ND people have a greater tendency to be deficient in certain vitamins and it’s important to remember correlation does not imply causation.
