Dropping Folate

Hi friends!

I started weekly b12 shots to treat deficiency and heavy neuro symptoms 18 months ago. I improved a great deal, but then discovered they depleted my ferritin. I spent nearly a year trying to improve it, but ultimately chose IV Iron as the supplements just wouldn’t do it.

I upped my shots to twice a week when starting the IV iron in September, and improved again. However, some symptoms are creeping back again (I am 4 weeks out from the final IV iron). My folate has always s been > 24, then in late summer was at 20, and now at 15. I haven’t changed my usual 400mcg folat (folic acid).

Question is…could the IV iron have depleted the folate? Maybe making the shots work better which then requires more folate? Curious to hear about others’ experiences

cheers!

I'm not aware of a process that would mean iron is causing more folate to be used.

Have you changed you dietary intake - eg are you eating less leafy veg?

Could be that whatever is causing B12 absorption problems is also affecting folate absorption

You've been injecting more often. This will most probably be the reason why you need more folate now.
