FA deficiency

I have noticed that other people on this site have also reported having FA deficiency for no apparent reason. I do have IBS or else FA deficiency causes IBS. The IBS is not being treated in any way. I cannot even get a scan done. Apart from this, I have a healthy diet. I have been prescribed FA 5 mg. I feel concerned a bit concerned about taking this, as I believe that it can be quite dangerous to have too high a level of serum FA and the blood is checked after 3 months. Lately, I have been feeling very tired. My B12 was middle of the range, so that does not suggest any kind of deficiency. I have a high MCV and I think that the mean cell haemoglobin is a bit too high. The MCV has been too high for years. The last blood count showed low platelets. Is this familiar to anyone else at all?

Do you mean folate or iron deficiency? 5mg is often a dose of folic acid if deficient only.

Then checked after 3m.

A maintenence dose often 200-400mcg folic acid

But b12 shouid be treated first though .

Oh .

FA Folic acid maybe

Fe= iron

You might have a folate deficiency - folic acid is what we use to raise our folate levels. There is no real evidence that 5mg of folic acid is dangerous however its pointless to continue on that dose if your folate level are now normal.
