Why do I feel so much better in the evening?

Been self-injecting EOD for 4 weeks now. My symptoms before injection were tearfulness, anxiety, shakiness, memory loss, cognitive issues, blurred vision and trouble walking properly. My active B12 on diagnosis was 33pmoL, folate was 2.6. Am taking 5mg folinic acid daily, plus vitamin D3, K2, gentle iron 20mg EOD, and magnesium glycinate 200mg in the evening. My Ferritin was high and other iron good when I started injections.

Since injections, I have noticed minor improvement in vision, memory, breathlessness and walking, but if anything anxiety (and even depression) have got worse. I know that some (hopefully much) of this is reversing out, but I've noticed that there is a distinct pattern. The anxiety/shakiness is terrible first thing in the morning, but by 8pm in the evening, I'm almost normal - No cognitive impairment, good mood, no anxiety. This lasts until I go to sleep, when the pattern begins again upon waking. I take medication for high blood pressure, which previously had been relatively controlled (until just before diagnosis) but is now getting dangerously high at times (170/110 this morning).

Could this all be down to B12D and things sorting themselves out, or is there something else at play/to investigate/to change?

Feeling very low as GP has basically washed her hands of me, my cardiologist is away for a week, and I literally feel like I'm flying blind.

Hi,

My BP suddenly shot up when my B12 deficiency was diagnosed. It is very important that you get it under control. It might be wise to making notes of the high readings and present them to your Gp.

It is very important that you address this.

I’m the same, just coming up to four months in. Not the anxiety, that has passed, but I get burning pain all over, bloating, headaches, really fuzzy head and vision, fatigue. But by the evening it wears off. Even sometimes by the afternoons now. I have had a really good few days, but today I’m back down with all these symptoms again. I am away in Dorset until tomorrow and have been doing a lot of chatting with a friend who came down for a couple of days, and done a few short walks etc. so think I am paying for it now. But I’m glad I had a good few days first, especially as the weather has been great. Even had a swim in the pool yesterday.

Glad to hear you've had some better days. Hopefully with a bit of rest you'll be back to feeling better again. Are you still injecting EOD?

Yes I am still doing EOD. Typical though, a few good days and then a rubbish day yesterday and not much better today. But I’ve been following the advice of a nutritionist and taking loads of supposedly good stuff for the gut. But yesterday and today I’ve had awful bloating and abdominal pain. Not sure if it’s one of the supplements, or the fact I’ve started eating gluten again. I have started magnesium and that may have caused it.

So back to square one with the gut problems and cut out everything and start again. So annoying. It’s one thing or another!!

Sorry for your GI discomfort, that is so hard! I find the gnawing in abdomen, burping, gas, loss of appetite difficult and it really brings me low. I feel I can handle the neuropathy better. I recently have been doing more gluten free even if my celiac tested normal, I thought it couldn’t hurt. I’m hesitating on adding magnesium as after one dose I think it affected my bowel and am paranoid to upset anything more. Taking magnesium baths. A daily probiotic really helped me better stabilize my gut. Clean eating seems to be helping. Hope your gut becomes friendly again!! Mine is fickle. My brain doesn’t know what to think, if B12 related or something sinister, it’s crazy making for me. Please update later on how it is going for you. Hoping you have improvement soon! 🥰

Luckily the next day my gut had settled down a bit, so definitely think it was the magnesium. I’ve just done a test to check my levels.

good morning,

I am on my 4th month of inj. yes your blood pressure is high , is it more normal range in the evenings? I have the exact opposite my blood pressure has been too low like 85 over 60's all during my treatment and before but my symptoms get worse in the evenings I thought maybe because I'm wearing out of b12 by then. this past week has been a blessing as my symptoms have been way more better, then in the eve my feet have been aching and low back tightening up. but the last two days hardly at all.

Chickens 44,,

also I'm happy you had some good days in this week. and now you were even able to visit with a friend. one of my symptoms with this deficiency was horrible anxiety and it's been getting so much better with treatment. we just have to stay injecting and cofactors and also rest.

Have you been tested for diabetes? Maybe your blood sugar is low in the morning.

Hi, sorry your feeling so depressed I’ve been through something similar not sure if it’s all related to the b12.I find I actually hallucinate always 2-3 was after I’ve had my b12 injections. You obviously are very down and I think you should think about speaking to a professional body as I did and for me it helped. It’s not something I wanted to do but I was having a lot of family issues at the time so I felt it a comfort talking to someone at Time to Talk as recommended by my GP. What ever you decide it’s always good to talk to other people about how you are feeling they can be a great help. I hope all turns out well for you🫶
