more than 12 months several trips to neurologist, scans and blood tests I’ve now been put back on B12 injections (on the advice of the neurologist to the GP surgery) every 8 weeks, my original GP said my levels were high enough to last for years and he thought it was masking something else so he stopped any treatment and referred me to a consultant with a 23 week waiting period.

If I hadn’t looked for and taken advice from this forum and started self injecting I would be in a much worse place today part of the reason for this was the recent changes at GP practice as it was unable to function and handed back to the HHS and then taken over by another GP practice

I would suggest the previous practice was not able to provide a level of service for the community and therefore B12 wasn’t top of their list, I would like to thank everyone who gave me the information to self inject because otherwise I would have been in a lot worse place today and I hope in time more GP and health professionals listen to patients and realise their is a problem with their understanding of b12 deficiency

This misunderstanding is so widespread that the solution must lie in education. Either lack of coverage of vitamin and mineral deficiencies during training or trivialising of the severity of effects on patients; it amounts to the same thing for the patients. Maybe both need addressing. They can't be short of case studies !

I am so so glad that you got a neurologist with a better understanding - it's not a given - and wishing you well. Self-injection is a brave decision to have to make, even when desperate.

Out of interest who is in charge of creating the curriculum for doctors training? Maybe it's that organisation we should liaise with!

You are right. I'm sure that is something that the Pernicious Anaemia Society have been working on already. I know there was something on their website that contributed toward Continued Personal Development for GPs.
