Celiac blood test, looks like it sits on a borderline, between 'normal' and possibly abnormal 🤷🏻‍♀️ what could this mean?

Does anyone understand this celiac test? I was surprised to see I sit on what looks like a borderline... what does <0.3 (u/ml) mean? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I wondered about iga deficiency, but maybe this could be normal...🤷🏻‍♀️

it means you need to have a biopsy for a conclusive result. Keep eating gluten until all your tests are done. Have a look at coeliac UK website - it will tell you all you need to know about getting diagnosed. They also have a helpline for any questions.

Borderline or weak positive results are less conclusive and may result from external factors interfering with the test or may indicate a lesser degree of mucosal damage. Regardless, a small intestinal biopsy should be considered to confirm the diagnosis.

I think the results are very poorly shown and that the arrow and line on .3 is just the result. It is very low so you are nowhere near borderline.

I don't think you are interpreting the results correctly. What I found for the test ranges is this:

tTG ANTIBODY, IgA

<4.0 U/mL (negative)

4.0-10.0 U/mL (weak positive)

>10.0 U/mL (positive)

So since 0.3 < 4 you have a negative test result.

I think that the yellow line for >= 10 is showing you where you would have a positive test result. I think your results are "normal" and not bordlerline. It seems confusing that they coloured the region <= 0.3 in yellow. Being in the range 4-10 is "borderline". The test result saying you are "normal" agrees with my interpretation.

People with coeliac disease can get a negative or normal range result in tTG IgA (Tissue transglutaminase IgA antibody) test if

1) they have IgA deficiency

Have you had a Total IgA test? This checks for IgA deficiency

2) they were not eating enough gluten prior to blood being taken.

Were you eating lots of gluten in more than one meal per day for several weeks before your blood was tested?

Worth searching for this UK document "NICE guideline Coeliac disease".

Worth hunting for your ICB's or Health Board's own guidelines for diagnosis of coeliac disease.
