So I had an active b12 test done in August and it showed borderline normal at the low end. I was told to do am MMA blood test and supplement. The MMA blood test came back normal so assumed I was OK and that the supplement would raise my levels. I was taking cyanocobalamin. I took this for 4 months and then had my levels re tested. My serum b12 had gone way up but my active b12 had gone down slightly. I'm now really worried. I'm just starting to take liquid methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin supplement hoping this will help.
How do I work out why I'm having this problem???

I've been to my doctor today who said they don't even know what active b12 is. Apparently they don't run it on the NHS which is why I had it done privately. Not sure what I do now
For your Doctors information, the Monitor My Health site run by the NHS, within their test kit lists, ONLY include Active B12 in favour of Serum B12 because according to their wording its the gold standard test and that serum b12 does not give much of a picture, maybe print it out and post or email to your Doctor. He /she should know this.
I spoke to an apparent b12 specialist too who told me not to worry about it as medi checks test are inaccurate. I honestly don't know whst to believe. If you cant get a doctor to listen, what do you do?
Yeah I know. Thank you very much for that. But what do you do when no one will listen to you? Is it ok to just try the sublingual liquid? At what point should you also take folate?
I'm so overwhelmed and no one will listen. I don't know what to do anymore
oh Popcorn12345 I know only too well how you feel ,when medics are not hearing or listening, and it all becomes overwhelming and lonely. Keep looking, asking and reading on this site. You will have more constructive advice and caring support here.
Im not the best person to ask for when to take what and when, how about posting again and ask what you asked me.
Keep going, we all have a right to optimum health, we may have to shout louder..
This is where it gets tricky. I don't know of you have heard of protracted antidepressant withdrawal? I have a ton of symptoms and don't know which are from that and which could be vit b12
