Anyone else have severe daily heartburn?

Diagnosis of autoimmune atrophic gastritis with intestinal metaplasia and also PA. Currently SI B12 (cyanobalamin ) EOD. Does anyone else with this get severe heartburn? I’ve cut out acidic and spicy. It seems to happen mostly on an empty stomach right before lunch. Sometimes Pepsid Complete works and sometimes I need to take gaviscon too. I’m wondering if I actually need to add acid? I read somewhere that this stomach condition causes the stomach to stop producing acid.

Yes high and low stomach acid csn give similar symptoms.

I have had this early on in 12 treatment.

Then occasionally.

Recently I got reflux.

To my suprise as the only 2 changes I'd made was semi skimmed milk to skimmed milk and stopped fruit juice

The skimmed milk was the culprit .

I read skimmed milk had s higher ph level which reduces stomach acid.!!

I went back to semi skimmed milk and it resolved.

Sensitive hey!

I now do have a little fruit juice at the end of a meal if no potato to put vinegar on.

Trying to reduce saturated fats ! And extra calories .

Eating little and often at the same times.

No food a few hours before bed.

I have a plain biscuit first thing as usually 12 hours since last eaten.

Try the soda test.

I've never done it but it determines if enough acid in your stomach .

Google the method.

I've managed so far to deal with it.

Not had a referral to gastro or an endoscopy.

It was worse the first ? year.

Nausea . Bloating. Reflux.

Heaving at times.

Its so horrid.

Try something acidic towards the end of your meal.

I use cider vinegar on food .

Or lemon.

Fresh ginger boiled then add lemon okay too.

Keep a food / drink diary .

I'm pretty much okay now as long as I eat at regular times .

If 'iffy' sleep on my left side.

Some have found symprove and other similar products kifir ect beneficial .

Hope you get relief

I take slippery elm with excellent results.

Which one do you take and is it daily?

I take the powder slippery elm 1 teaspoon in water. Tastes dreadful so I put a quarter teaspoon of honey with it.

Can you tell me which brand? I hesitate to just order something that’s not regulated without a recommendation

I did. Then I cut out gluten and I didn’t. I also suspect low stomach acid was an issue too, which is again better now after a period on HCL tablets.

Re: acid, I think gaviscon works by forming a blocking raft more than reducing acid, so it might not go against the idea of low stomach acid being a problem.

Which HCL tablets did you take and for how long?

It was Higher Nature Betaine HCL, and amazingly I don’t think I took it for longer than three weeks. However, there were a couple of days when I accidentally took twice the daily limit 😬 which may have done something to kick start acid production!
