There was discussion about needle gauges and lengths which I saved to go back to it. No surprises then that I now can't find it to see which to buy. I currently SI IM but wondering about Subcut, what needles finest shortest possible would be ok to use, I just wondered if it is possible to buy some that could be used for either option , Thanks for any info
Needles , finest, shortest - Pernicious Anaemi...
Needles , finest, shortest
For Intra-Muscular injections you need a longer needle than Sub -cutaneous , as it needs to reach the muscle which is deeper than the fat layer
For an intra-muscular injection you need a 25g x 1inch needle
After 9 years of using the I.M. method , I have converted to Sub-cutaneous . I use a very fine , very short needle . It works as well as I.M. method .
The needle I use is 30G x 6mm .The only place that I can find to obtain it is Amazon.u.k. ( Antonmove stainless steel pipe 30 G and then select the length. )
Best wishes
Thanks I think it was your comment on the previous post I was looking for
Hi Wedgwood, I am really pleased to know it is possible to inject subcutaneously. Is it really as effective as an intramuscular injection? Recently I seem to touch some kind of blood vessel with IM injection because it bleeds… my RA hands are getting much worse. Do you still inject in the thigh with SI? I already do SI injections in my abdomen for RA treatment so would rather not to have to do that with B12 injections. 🌺
I injected I.M.for 9 years .I decided to try out Sub-cutaneous 6 months ago . I can assure you that it works just as well as I.M. I saw that Sub-cut was recommended, along with I.M. on the B12 depot packets that we get from Germany .
You can inject across the whole of the front of your thigh ( as well as the tummy fat ) Not just into the middle outer portion where the muscle is nearest the surface . This is what I do , and I swap thighs each time ., and roughly note where .
Yes , you can cause skin damage if you inject on the same spot time after time .
I have had a terrific spurt of blood occasionally with an I.M. injection , but it causes no damage . Just press on the spot for a minute or two .
You can get a little bleeding from a sub-cutaneous injection , but it is really minor . The fat layer has a much smaller blood supply than the muscles . Therefore the b12 is released into the blood stream much more slowly , which I think is a good thing, once one has had the loading doses .
There are totally needle-less methods of injection now , should you ever wish to dispense with needles altogether .
Besg wishes .
Thank you so much. It is reassuring. What are the needle, ess methods of injections please? Indeed I had a couple of blood spurts, blood falling onto the kitchen floor! It was scary when not quite expected…
There is a device from Australia
and also an American device
I have no knowledge of the devices , except that the B12 would be injected through the skin under pressure . I’ve not heard of anyone who has used them either .
I can't for the life of me remember where I bought all my syringes and needles from last time, running low , will have a look on Amazon,
is used frequently . I get the fine short needles for sub-cut from Amazon .
can't find 6mm
From my own experience I can say that 'finer' is not always better/less painful. My favorite for subcutaneous is 27gx12mm. I don't like the 30g in comparison.
Well, we are all different as we know . The only way to find out is to experiment .
The thing with a very short and very fine needle is that it LOOKS less intimidating to people who have a needle phobia .
I'm needle phobic myself, and having to use the 30g (as that were the only ones I could get at the time) made injecting a lot harder for me, as it takes much longer and is more painful for me. Might be different for someone else, or might be the same.
If your phobia should ever get the better of you , it’s good to know that there are totally needle-less methods available . ( but more expensive )
Are there? Other than extremely high dosed oral supplements?
Yes , but I dont know much about them. Look at the following sites for information. Australian device
American device
I haven’t heard from anyone who had used them.
Best wishes .
