Are you injecting into the muscle or subcutaneously?

What size needles are needed for the Panpharma Hydroxocobalamin you use if doing subcutaneous injections? This is the bit I find most worrying. Getting the needles right. I inject a different product at the moment but that's submit via a pen and very easy. This seems more complex.

I’m using sub-cut after 9 years of IM . I use a 6mm x 30G needle into the front of my thighs . I’ve found that needle on Amazon.co.u.k. Couldn’t find it on medisave.

You can buy such a needle attached to an insulin syringe on Medisave . But i’m no good at extracting the B12 from the ampoule with such a combined needle and syringe .

You can only inject slowly with such a fine needle . Works perfectly .

I've added those to my list so that I don't forget them.

What syringe do you fit them onto? And do you get them from Medisave?

I'm going to ask the surgery if they will let me trial the B12 SI first. But if they won't I will have to buy. I'm fine about buying the B12 from Germany. It's been the syringes and needles that have been stressing me out. Getting the right combo.

It’s so good to have the choice . Sub- cut is really great . I’m now a total convert after 9 years of I.M. Also sub-cut is more user-friendly , and not so intimidating as I.M. I think it was you who gave me the idea when I read one of your posts ! Can’t think why everyone doesn’t use it when they SI.

Also less challenging for someone who helps other by giving them their injections .

An all-round very good thing !

Yes it was a neurologist I asked .Then onto Gps with a letter condoning prescribing 'off licence '

From that neurologist.

Surgery initially refused

I bought my own with help from you and fbirder .

Then a phone call out of the blue .

One Gp stood up to her peers and prescribed it.

Shd said she had alot of opposition.

I knew that the case as when my repeat prescription asked for and shd was not on duty it was refused and passed onto her .

Pathetic of her 5 peers not to trust hef professional judgement

Saw her the most .

Shd knew little little about b12.

Saw me at my worst.

Thought it was a big dip in oestrogen .

Tried on several occasions to get me on antidepressants.

To go to yoga ect.

In the end convinced me to try HRT patches.

I lasted 3 weeks .

6 day migraine thr finale .

Took weeks to wean off slowly .

Giving me the mini pill as patches wernt s low enough dose .

That gave me terrible side effects .

So a very bad day of cold turkey.

Another antidepressant offered as serotonin drops abruptly.

I declined but after terrible effects of dizziness, nausea and diarrhoea

Realised the antidepressant would've reduced this ax raises serotonin.

Then would have to get off that though ! and so it goes on.

Pity the surgery shut so can't see her anymore.

At least she tried.

She ordered the b12 test.

Also brain MRA .

We need b12 otc

Licenced for sc too.

I'm a good case study for it

How I kept a straight face when shd said yoga I do not know.

I couldn't stand long enough for s shower at the time or walk well or coukd bend without falling.

An open mind is all we ever ask for

Posted alot for others to follow at the time.

It was March 2020 I took the plunge when my I.M ones af the surgery were 2weekly and I knew could not be sustained through that period.

At that stage I had IM 4 weekly at least.

My husband injects insulin .

So coukdnt sed why it shouldn't work

I thought it may not stay in the system as long.

In practice IM definitely goes in quicker not always an advantage as can giveca see saw effect .

However needed at times.

To date I still need weekly injections however administered after trials of trying to go longer between injections.

One thing I do not understand is I can have a 'Better day ' the day before injection due?

If i could ever know that level that is would be wonderful.

But if I've left it one more day a mistake.

In theory IM should last longer as deeper.

Tell my body that!!

I've not looked back.

Still have 6 weekly IM at the surgery.

Darnt change anything and on their radar!!

Gone 4 weekly to 6 weekly though IM

I’ve been given to understand that I.M . gets into the blood quickly because the supply of blood vessels is greater in the muscles . The fat layer of the skin is less well endowed with blood vessels so B12 is released much more slowly . I would have thought that is an advantage once initial I.M . injections have been given Is this an accurate assumption? Woukd love to hear from a professional on this . If it is true , I cannot understand why subcutaneous injections are not condoned in U.K.

.Sounds hugely advantageous to me !

We know that sub-cut is recommended in Germany . as it is writ large on the packets of B12 that are produced there ..Germany has a good reputation concerning anything medical . But i know now after several months of sub-cut , that they are effectual .

I buy the separate very short injection needles from Amazon . ( can’t get them from Medisave )I use a long 1 1/2 inch with - drawing needle G21 i think and a 2ml syringe from Medisave . It’s easy to draw up the b12 from the ampoule with a long needle . Then use the short 30G x 6mm to inject —you can’t feel it at all !

Other wise you can use a combined 1 ml insulin syringe with attached 6 mm x 30G needle if you are able to withdraw the B12 from the ampoule by turning it upside down ( I can’t manage it !) Obtainable from medisave .

The short sub-cut needle is so much less intimidating than the much longer I.M needle which must reach to the muscle .

Hi Tattlee, vitaminb12direct ships to the UK with 10.00 shipping, it's been around close to a decade now. There are numerous Canadian online providers as well but they do tend to be a bit more expensive on product and shipping, particularly to the UK.
