still feel fatigue after a hip replacement.

Hi I had a hip replacement 3months ago but still feel very tired after exercise.

Is this normal after this operation.

I am trying to walk every day and do my exercises as the physio suggests.

I thought by now I should feel better than I do.

Would like your thoughts on this for anyone out there who has had a hip replacement .

Regards and thank you.

I had a hip replacement. I've never been the same since as I broke my femer. Lost length in my leg.Hope yours gets better as my first one was fantastic. Shouldn't of had it redone.

You'll feel fine takes 4+ months to get back on your feet excuse the expression 😉

Hi Chocolate41, sorry you are still fatigued. I had back surgery two years ago, so a bit different, but also had lasting fatigue. We had a thread about feeling low B12 after surgery/hospital stays recently healthunlocked.com/pasoc/po... Sometimes increasing injections can help.

I suppose your surgeons told you the signs to watch out for if there was an infection afterwards? May be worth a visit to your GP to check for any other issues like low iron or something else.

Hope you recover soon x

Would this be due to anaesthetic depleting B12? 🤔

I wouldn’t of thought so.I had an epidural and just sedation not nitrous oxcide.

I have upped my B12 injections to one fortnightly so am hoping it helps.

We’re you given nitrous oxide as an anathetic for the op as this can be detrimental for those with B12D? And 3 months is nothing for a major op.

No I didn’t have nitrous oxide just epidural and sedation.

So glad you say 3 months is nothing for a major op.There is hope yet.🤣

Thank you.

How do you know you don’t have it? I had to ask my anaesthetist for a list of what he used to find out? And I was given it. It can leave B12D people feeling awful afterwards. And yes 3 months is early days for a major op. Make sure you do your physio. X

Hi Chocolate, just wanted to reassure you that, in my case, that sounds quite normal. I had a hip replacement eighteen months ago. Although I am 74 now, I have always tried to keep fit for my age and thought I would be back to normal in no time. But it took quite some time I have to say, I hadn't expected to feel so light headed or so unbalanced and unsteady, it gave me a fright and I thought I would never get well. But I had read that those who keep up their exercises for more than a year where most likely to get back to where they were. So I just added the exercises to my list and carried on regardless, making them part of my morning routine - and some months ago now I suddenly realised that I was moving and walking without giving it a thought and I can honestly say now that I am back to where I was before the op - minus the pain!! So hang on in there, do a bit of research, and keep doing what you're doing. The very best for the future, big hug x

Thanks piglet that is so reassuring. When I am walking I do at times feel light headed and unbalanced.I still do my exercises and walk as much as possible.I try not to use my stick but sometimes feel as if I need to.

I have one more physio on Wednesday. The pain has gone thank goodness. My hip had completely disintegrated.x
