Anyone know why I become heavily fatigued to the point of falling asleep after eating carbohydrates?

Hi

I get this, it’s unrelated to my b12 deficiency, I had a glucose tolerance test and I have reactive hypoglycaemia... essentially eating carbs or high sugar load causes the blood sugar to rise then drop dramatically which is when u get that foggy brain can’t keep your eyes open feeling. Smaller meals more often helps as does eating high protein foods with the carbs to balance the effects. It’s very common and isn’t the same as diabetes. Lots of people get shaky and stiff with it but for me it’s just either lightheaded not with it type feeling or could fall asleep sitting at the table! Just a thought! All the best!

Hi Cubies could it be Postprandial hypotension which is an excessive decrease in blood pressure that occurs after a meal. Dizziness, light-headedness, and falls may occur. Doctors measure blood pressure before and after a meal to diagnose postprandial hypertension. Eating small, low-carbohydrate meals frequently may help.

I am not a medically trained person

Yes this happens with autonomic dysfunction which may well be included in B12 deficiency symptoms?

Small frequent lower carb meals definItaly works at regular 3 -4 hourly intervals. Also helped my headaches. Also eat anything sweet with a complex carbon helps regulate sugar levels. At one point not sure if b12 ellovatespecially metabolism but I was so jittery and shaky if I went over 3-4 hours without food then dopey like you say. I'mean eating more bananas thar actually I'm not that keen on . As long as they ripe not only do they contain b6 and pottassium but really stay in your system for slow release sugar. Thathe is why ballet dancers eat so many.

Bananas give me a boost of natural energy but I've stopped eating them because I was told they are fatty and I'm trying to lose some weight. I've been doing some experiments to see which foods give me a natural boost of energy and which induce high levels of fatigue. (I'm recovering from D12 vitamin deficiency)

Don't give up bananas! They sustain you so you eat less of other stuff.
