Relevant blood test to ask for...

Hi Fellow PA members,

Will keep this short, but would like to know the name of the relevant blood test to measure how efficient my B12 jabs are at reaching where it should go.

My GP practice declined blood tests generally (I'm PA and Coeliac and haven't had any bloods for nearly 3 years now).

When I went to pick up the blood request form the ONLY blood test they had requested is the normal B12 level and of course, it retuned at a level of 1300 and marked as as 'sky high' (GP's words not mine). I despair.

Once I have the name of the blood tests best to measure my levels and body's efficiency at cellular level I can ask for these. (Currently have x1 jab every 8 weeks - and a real fight to retain this).

Thanks in advance lovely people.

Hi,

Apologies for a quick reply.

I think you need to look into MMA and Homocysteine tests.

I found several articles when I searched online for "diagnosis functional B12 deficiency"

Hi Sleepbunny,

Many thanks for the reply and apologies for disturbing everyone's Sunday but wanted to get the information ready for a letter to surgery tomorrow. Will make a note of the 2 tests - MMA and Homocysteine. 👍
