Hi, My B12, folate, ferritin and vit d were all really low a few months ago, i've had ferritin infusions, folate and D tablets and am injecting B12 a couple times a week. I am feeling somewhat better and my bloods are all fine now. My original doctor said i had pernicious Anaemia, i've had other autoimmune disease in the past. Recently i had an Intrinsic Factorn Antibodies test which came back as 2 u/ml (which is low i think). I dont know whether this blood test shows anything, reading online people say it doesnt necessarily mean anything, testing whilst injecting will give the wrong results etc. Does anyone have any experience of this? Able to help me understand?
Thank

Do you have access to the original test results? They will have given a range. Generally the cut off is 1 and your result of 2 would be a positive result but different labs use different ranges so you really need the results to see.
The test isn't very sensitive and gives false negatives 40-60% of the time, depending on the test method. It rarely gives false positives. The exception is when done close to an injection.
Well, I just got my lab results back and it says my vitamin B12 is 1650, which kinda blew me away. Now I've got to wonder if taking weekly B12 shots and under my tongue liquid affected the results. Anyway, I still do not know what my folic acid (which was way low), levels are. So, not sure, but my best advice is just to read, read, read, about anything you can about this. one book title is "Could it be B12" by salluy M. Pacholok.
