Just back from the surgery.

Arrived for an overdue IM B12 injection booked.

Terrible trouble gettibg an appointment.

Still 'reeling ' from' letter recieved' an earlier post .

New stand in nurse fr9m 'twin' surgery .

Taken over in January.

New management .

No hello . No how are you?

One word. B12 she said.

I said Yes . Ive a hat as light sensitive

Lights remained on in a brightly lit room of sunshine ??

Usually turned off.

Obviously no dialogue wanted.

No comment from nurse

Then;

"It isnt 12 weeks "

I said no.

Silence.

Then i said . Dr........senior partner assured me its on the homepage of my notes to stop further confusion.

Nurse"this not making sense as not 12 weeks

Me.

I assure you i have z 2 weekly b12 prescription.

I suggest you get Dr .........to write it on the homepage so its clear to all.

She then asked my regime

?????????

She typed what i said.

Without one word slung the box of b12 from a drawer onto the table and drew up the B12 infront of me.

In silence gave it.

I said thank you .

Also saying she had the knack as didnt hurt.

No smile .bye

Nothing

All within 7 minute's

Couldn't bobookbobook next one.

Receptionist said will put me on the waiting list

Lost for words........

All going wrong

What a mess

That is appalling. The whole system has gone completely to pieces. Computerised records seem to have made life harder rather than having important information on the front of a card wallet for all to see.

Best wishes, Jane

I heartily agree about computerized records. I can’t count the number of times my info (scripts, lab orders) etc. “can’t be found in the computer” and I have to call my doctor AGAIN. I much prefer having a script on hand. (Or doctor’s orders). If the order for two weekly is found, perhaps ask for a written copy that you can take with you each time. They can’t argue with the actual order. (Well, I guess they can but I find documentation to be extremely helpful). So very sorry Nackapan. My heart hurts for you.

Thanks.

Yes looking on my app!

Keeps saying .

As prescribed.

Have printed off neurologists reply aggreeing to continue with 2 weekly b12 injections.

Dated 28.02.22

Also have one from 2020 ftom a different neurologist

what a despicable excuse for a medical professional so sorry you’ve had this hassle again Nackapan.

I can’t take any more confrontation like this so I don’t even bother going now I’ve not had one shot from this new practice in 18 months and don’t intend to, if I can’t administer myself I’ll go to my private gp but thankfully doubt I’ll need to,I trust no one fully now.

Isn’t it a sad state of affairs when we are more afraid of our confrontational medical system than we are to self treat.

So sorry for you x

Yes.

Seems the new management top heavy with senior gps

Bitten off more than they can chew taking on another surgery i think.

No permanent nurses or HCAs .

Record keeping appeara to be appalling .

Causing a backlog of more lettrs of complaints

Not read but scsnned on?

Facing a receptionist they are unabke to book an appointment.

You have to ring in.????

Its gone beyond ridiculous.

Nurses keep leaving .morale low.

No continuity no job satisfaction.

No resl patient care.

A smile doesnt cost.

No interest it seems

No outcomes seen.

Fire fighting.

Hacve to chase mums now.

Last one was just done .

A one off it seems.

Goodness . All very worrying .

Hope PAS succeeding in their input to new guidelines

I’m dreadfully sorry to read Nackapan,

What’s wrong with a quick, hi my name is and how are you ? And an actually you’re the patient so know about your frequency.

The booking system can be a nightmare.

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply to Narwhal10

Morale low.

Politeness non existent.

Caring zero.

Nurses train as care....well they used to.

Didnt even wash her hands before giving it

Keyboards rarely cleanesd .

As for record keeping..

So easy on the system.

Communication vital especialy ftom a nurse.

Just as well not a nervous patient.

Though difficult to relax arm as inwardly so disappointed/ fed up of shoddy care.

"Didnt even wash her hands before giving it"

Did you say anything to her?

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply to Sleepybunny

On this occasion no. 🤷‍♀️but did ask brand as usual. She said no idea but i saw the box

ISaid....oh Accord.

Said only one brand i cant tolerate! No response

Staying calm for actual injection and felt it unwise in the situation to say more

Too much going on

Strangely for the very first time i swabbed my arm in the car before going in

It bled a bit so thats cleansing.

cheriton22 profile image
cheriton22 in reply to Nackapan

She should have given you the brand you can tolerate. The GP should order in the brand you are able to have

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply to cheriton22

Yes.

Ive told them over and over .

Must be on the notes somehere ??

I dont think they believed me .

Just said to avoid that brand.

Pharmacist did take note.

Also took time to look at the different additives.

It was an ex forum member fbirder that helped .

Knowing the different additive

Pharmacist never issues that brand on my prescription to inject at home now.

I wont chip my two penneth in but their attitude stinks and I am not aloud to swear on site. 😡 🤬

Liz0808 was refused her B12 injection so keep fingers crossed she got it reinstated.

We are just numbers on a very long list.

They are nothing other than a load of bar-stewards. 😘 💐

Nackapan profile image
Nackapan in reply to Jillymo

Yes . Liz0808 has hers friday but a fight ahead

I got mine.

Seemingly undef duress

The stress that is caused 😕 unforgivable.

We have precious little energy as it is .

Upset / anger should not repeatedly be the outcome ftom a trip to the surgery .

I then got a text for feedback of my visit.

In the US, we get a survey after every visit. Do you get those?

I definitely am waiting for one from my most recent visit. I'm going to say how rude and non communicative he was. How he just went through the motions and seemed very disinterested. At least i feel like I have a way to voice my compliments and complaints. Also, Google reviews works. I like to leave Google reviews. Especially if they are good reviews. Not enough people take the time to compliment. Google sends updates on how many views your review got. So people read them. I would at least Google the doctor and then write a scathing review if they deserve it. The whole world sees it, not just NHS.

as a retired nurse who was thinking of returning to the profession I can honestly say I no longer wish to be part of something that is falling apart in front of our eyes. The absolute must for a nurse is the bedside manner, doctors not so much! This nurse failed you badly and I’m so sorry. I don’t attend my gp’s any more. When they refused my injections after a blood test I sent in BNF and NICE guidelines to the practice manager and they said they follow their own guidelines. You can’t argue with stupid!!! Glad you got your injection despite albeit it from a robot!

I too quit nursing, following the sudden death of my brother, 5 years ago. After working in oncology and then Community. The NHS back then no longer exists. It has been damaged irrecoverably since 2020. I knew this once and for all, when my best friend's Mum was admitted to Royal Berks Hospital, and following a scan, told she had stage 4 cancer of the oesophagus last March . No one present when she was told this devastating news, and not a single visitor permitted in her 8 weeks stay, but most seriously of all, a locked ward ! A locked ward ... To this day I cannot accept the inhumanity. It is for this reason, i chose to continue self injecting my b12, even though the GP reinstated them after 3 years and said it was an error they had been stopped. It is also for this reason, that i have only been to a GP surgery twice in 5 years. My instinct tells me my best chance for my own good health is in my own hands. And nothing would ever persuade me to work for the NHS again. It has no interest in seeing people recover, it is simply beholden to flow charts and big pharma now.

in reply to Monkharris

A friend of mine, a carer who looks after her husband, who is deaf and can hardly walk took him to an appointment. She obviously wanted to go in with him to listen what was being asked etc. She was refused and the door slammed in her face.

What has gone wrong.

Is it any wonder the NHS are loosing dedicated nurses and doctors , who leave because they can no longer take the strain of a system thats failing.

Monkharris profile image
Monkharris in reply to

Exactly Sallyannl. Your example is the sort of incident that could make me cry. A hearing impaired patient denied a person to accompany them to a medical appointment. That can only indicate a tick box exercise as opposed to any real intent to assist the patient in their quest to get well. But technically , the patient has "been seen". Part of the difficulty is that for many people, The NHS is viewed as an institution that cannot be criticised. This is problematic because it means that poor practice continues and spirals, without any scrutiny. I think back to how many reviews into safety there had been by the time Connor Sparrowhawk drowned in the bath, and how that tragedy has unbelievably, triggered no meaningful change, just a rename of the NHS trust involved, and a few heads that rolled . We are now at tick box healthcare stage I fear.

Interesting information on Swiss Policy Research suggests that current increase in UK excess deaths may be as a result of the collpase of our healthcare system here in the UK? And that Government would be more than happy if we blamed it on anything but that.

in reply to Monkharris

Of course, its all down to others, never the people at the top dictating and covering up.

oh man, 🤬 that's when i would have said excuse me but I'm their ears and I'm coming in. I won't stand for that kind of treatment anymore. This forum gave me that strength. 37 years of egotistical doctors who let me suffer for over 3 decades and poked fingers in my fat telling me I'm just fat. Never again will i be spoken to like that by a doctor or anyone. Pill pushing, rude, burned out, ego, money driven doctors.

Just wondered if the husband has considered recording appopintments.

GPs are unlikely to be keen but I can't see how they could refuse as he's deaf.

Requests to record appointments probably best sent to reach GPs a week or so prior to appointment.

Thank you for your reply.

An ex collegue/friend .a practice nurse saying the same . She cant wait to retire next year .

Following their own guidelines!! Speechless

Too fragmented .too many groups/ chains of practices . Too many 'chiefs'

I was a band 4 in the NHS for 34 years.

I find it sad the work ethic has changed so badly and morale so low.

As you well know its never been easy ,but with good team work and continuity it works.

Lets face it ,its a vocation.

Cleaning could earn the same as i was getting . Still hard work but far less resposibility .

Yesterday i was calm . Waited patiently. Smiled. Polite ......ive written in ,spoken to admin, doctors just to try and get my notes correct.

Any medic should clearly see on the system what treatment you are receiving.

Basics

I know 'record keeping ' training is given.

We all deserve a better sevice.,at the very least a caring attitude.

Yes on occasions a consult goes wrong but this is relentless .

I have to prepare mentally and physically now...for a phone call or actual surgery visit.

Im getting weary now of defending 'our NHS'

Lets hope it can again turn around .

All these signs saying :

Zero tolerance of bad behavior.

What about the bad bevaviour/treatment shown to the patient ?? 🤔

Take care

It's so sad the good ones don't want to be in the field anymore due to the bad ones. I'm so sorry. Health has got to be the hardest profession to be in. I'm in awe of nurses and how they cover the docs asses everyday. Soothing patients that docs made cry and being made to feel less than them. Nurses put up with so much ego from docs. It's just wrong. I try to be nice no matter what because i know nurses have it the worst. This pandemic has really done a number on the health care industry. Hopefully, they revamp everything and start over because everything is very broken. It can't continue like this without collapsing.

Dear God in heaven, it’s all getting worse. I am so sorry to read how you were treated, it’s disgraceful. Who in their right mind would attend a doctors surgery for an injection they did not absolutely need. The NHS is on its knees, it can’t recruit and the staff we know are overworked. In saying this, none of this is the fault of the patients. I was brought up to believe that you treat people the way you would wish to be treated. God help that nurse when Karma bites her.

That's simply rude and unacceptable. How dare they treat people like that.

The medical world is burned out!! Im always worried when I see I have a new doc. I had nearly the same reaction from new oncologist last week. But this time I didn't let his attitude make me cry. This forum gave me the confidence to not take it to heart so much, because they are closed minded. I walked out calling him an narrow minded idiot in my head. He did not like that i self inject. Tried to tell me I'm taking too much b12. Pushed on my very painful stomach, hard and sudden, asked me why it was sore. I said 4 abdominal surgeries, atrophic gastritis, probably, SIBO..... He said nothing, them asked what all the injection spots were. I said b12, he said make sure you rotate areas. That was it. He maybe said 8 words in the 5 minute visit. Very closed minded. Usually i would have walked out wondering what i did to make him react that way. No more. Now i know he is just a burned out jerk.

sorry to hear this, and everybody else’s tales of woe.

This is happening too often for it to be down to us all being obnoxious or obstructive 😟

I’ve just escalated my complain as I haven’t even had acknowledgment of my complaint despite sending it 3 times in the last 3 weeks and additionally to the parent group that runs the surgery.

I’m not sure why I’m surprised though tbh as when I asked who the practice manager was and how I could get in touch with him directly they didn’t even know his name !!! Dave somebody apparently 😟
