Any Side Effects from Methylcobalamin injection?

Any side effects to look out for? I’m finally getting methyl injections twice a week (along with a cyano injection once a week).

The reason why is because I can’t get the cyano more often than once per week (it’s a prescription through my doc) and there’s a health spa type of place nearby that gives methyl injections so that brings me up to 3 times a week total. My symptoms are very bad right now so I’m hoping the more frequent injections help me feel better.

I see that you are in the U.S. . You can obtain B12 Cynocobalamin ampoules from Canada without prescription , if you are prepared to self - inject .

I have tried Methylcobalamin ampoules in the past , and had no problem with them . But I found them no more effective than Hydroxocobalamin b12 injections which are the B12 injections of choice here in U.K. . But bear in mind that we are all different,and can react differently.

Single use ampoules are the safest   to administer B12. Several use vials are at greater risk of contamination in a domestic situation , where they  are not very rapidly used .

It is safer to use single-use ampoules than multi-use vials in a domestic situation , because of the danger of contamination, and the fact that a vial is not used up quickly in a domestic situation , unlike an ampoule which is injected within a minute of being opened .

B12 can be administered by either an Intra-Muscular or a sub-cutaneous injection . 

For an I.M. Injection a 25G x 1 inch needle can be used . 

For a sub-cutaneous injection a 30G x 1/2 inch needle can be used .

A long coarse needle , say 21G x 11/2 inches long,  can be used to withdraw the B12 from the ampoule. This is needed because the needle is made blunt by touching the ampoule . This would make the injection painful .

This information is supplied to you by a private individual , who has been self-injecting  for eight years, using single -use ampoules.

thanks. Right now this is what my options are (methyl 2x a week and cyano 1x.) I’m self injecting the cyano btw and the pharmacy is shipping it to me.

I’d still like an answer to my question (about side effects of methyl). I read somewhere that b12 injections cause potassium loss? Idk if that’s true for all types or just methyl. But that was something I was hoping to confirm, that sort of thing (to make sure I’m being safe by injection methyl so often).

I also get a lot more pain after the methyl injection than I do with the cyano

The reply to your question about side-effects of Methylcobalamin injections is that they will vary from person to person , if there are any . I had no side effects at all . But there was no advantage to me over Hydroxocobalamin , so i discontinued them because of the expense . But they don’t suit some patients , and others think they are great . …

There is absolutely no need to worry how often you inject any B12 if it suits you . It is the one vitamin that you CANNOT overdose on .

I’ve seen a scientist argue that there is a huge amount of hype surrounding Methylcobalamin., I cannot find the post where this is explained by a scientist member called “fbirder” .

I switched from cyanocobalamin to methylcobalamin a bit over a year ago. Been injecting weekly at 2,000 mcg. I've experienced no negative affects but have noticed a significant improvement in neuro symptoms like balance, vertigo, and when I would almost black out that is all gone now.

Thanks for adding this, I bought jarrow methyl lozengers, now I have given hubby one to try, and he says his head feels alot better. So we just have to experiment and see if he gets any better, he can't get any worse, so nothing to lose.

Sallyannl, I do have medical studies that suggest "methyl" cobalamin is best for recovery of neurological symptoms related to B12D. I will dig those out and send to you...just may take me some time to find them. I suck at cataloging and organization! 🙃

update about the side effects. I never get headaches but last night couldn’t sleep because of the headache it felt like heavy pressure and my eyes hurt. I still feel it this morning. I had 1 injection wednesday and one the day after (thursday) of the methyl. Idk for sure that it’s from the injections but I’ll try it again next week and see if the same happens. I never had side effects from the cyano. I’m increasing my intake of high potassium foods in case the headache is caused by low potassium
