I had pyloric stenosis surgery at 3 months old where they take out some of the deodenum which is the area that absorbs iron and b12. I’ve had to get b12 injections and now am iron deficient. Curious if anyone else had the same surgery as a baby and now have the same vitamin and mineral malabsorption issues. One out of every 1000 babies have the condition so seems like there should be several out there and would be good to chat with you.

Hello! I had surgery for pyloric stenosis as a baby, and I’ve got serious deficiencies in iron and other things. I’m making an appointment to be tested to see if I have pernicious anemia- in fact. After researching I saw your post, and I’m thinking the two may be related.
Was hoping to reach out to those that had this surgery so they could make sure they follow their blood work closely. The area we had surgery on, absorbs many nutrients and I got so deficient in b12, I was sent to oncology thinking I may have cancer. It could had been all avoided if doctors just read my notes on my surgery and put it together. Even when I was a baby and got sick, my mom took me to doctor and he told her I was fine. I was down to birth weight and vomiting at that point. Next day, mom took me to emergency and they immediately baptized me and did the surgery. Mom always cried when she told this story.
