Hi everyone, thanks so much for support and advice. It's been invaluable and given me the confidence to purchase vit b12. Could someone tell me which needles to use for intramuscular injections. Thank you

Hi Mrsmr- I am in same position as you, just one step ahead. I now have the needles. Someone on this forum whose name I forget, unfortunately gave me the following instructions which I followed to the letter. Simple! I now have the needles but have yet to find courage to use them …..UNDERSTANDABLE NEEDLES ORDER
Try medisave.co.uk to buy needles and the like, they're great and a trusted source. I use the BD brand ones: 2ml syringes (even though my B12 is 1ml - I find them easier to hold than 1ml syringes as they're typically long and thin) that come with 23g (gauge) 1" (long) needles already attached (the SKU is 307740). I also buy a separate pack of 25g 1" needles; I use the 23g to draw up, and then swap the needle to a 25g to inject. The length of needle (to the best of my knowledge) is appropriate for IM in either my arm or leg, and either gauge is suitable for B12. I only ever inject 1ml into my arm, although I think you can inject a larger volume into the thigh if your B12 concentration is different to mine. Hope that helps
Thanks libuse that is helpful. Just waiting for my b12 to arrive. Take care and thanks again
I have now just ordered an ampoule snapper from Amazon for £4.99. One day I will find courage to plunge needle!
I use a 25 gauge 1.5 inch and inject in my thigh (IM). I’ve been told by the nurse and pharmacist that I can use the same needle to draw up but I see here that many use a different. Is it ok to use the same? My B12 is in a vial not ampules.
It's fine. Some injectables are more viscous, but with b12 the gauge/length of needle you use to draw doesn't matter.
eta: I am currently repurposing 26g 3/4-inch needles that I got for free for SC for my draw. I inject IM now. After the draw, I switch to 27g 1 3/4-inch, 3 ml syringe (I use Hevert Depot from Germany, 2 ml ampoule).
I've been doing this a long time, so I'll often use the same needle to draw and inject. I wouldn't recommend it with a vial, though, since the needle will be inevitably blunted piercing the membrane. If one is careful, one can withdraw from an ampoule without blunting the needle.
😂 I am no good at cartoons or printmaking! Urban landscape in oils, my thing. Good to meet you. I love this site. I would be depressed health-wise without it. It’s so supportive
