Changes with periods

Hi, to those who this might apply to. I am perimenopausal but still have periods every month. Since starting my injections they have become considerably more painful (like labour pains) and the frequency has increased, like after 5 days of finishing I am back on again. Is this a thing?

Not sure, but I don't think so - I have friends who aren't B12d who this sort of thing has started happening to and I haven't heard it on here or other groups... but I'm looking forward to seeing what others say.

It's worth asking a Dr about, without suggesting a link to B12, (and that's taking into account how hard it is to ask a Dr anything at the moment!), just in case they can help you.

Thanks. It might just be a coincidence that this has happened since starting the injections. I am on HRT for my peri menopause symptoms but it is not a high dose, it was the brain fog and tiredness that caused me to get a well woman private blood test and then find out about my b12/vitamin D deficiency and then have it confirmed I have p.a from the intrinsic factor antibody test from my GP.

I would seek medical advice as I have not heard of what you are experiencing. Could just be co-incidental with your B12 injections. Best to get it checked out.

I don’t believe that’s connected to injections, sounds like a peri menopause thing. Although it’s a common thought that periods get less and lighter, for some/many they become more painful heavier and more frequent for a while, I’d see your gp to talk about help with peri menopause and keep an eye on iron levels if periods are heavy

Many symptoms of peri menopause are similar to b12 deficiency including fatigue and brain fog, anxiety, irritability etc and sometimes it’s a like a double whammy!

Thanks for the reply. I have been peri menopausal for a few years so was surprised to only have a change to my periods since starting the injections, maybe just a coincidence. A double whammy indeed with the brain fog and irritability.

Hi.. you could try HRT type that stops periods .. I’ve been on tablets for 13years since 40 and no periods .. this might stop the cramps .. not to mention inconvenience

Personal experience was that periods got lighter and easier to deal with when started B12. As others say it doesn't. Sound like B12. Suggest you consult GP.

Hi,

I think any unusual bleeding should be discussed with your GP.

Yes I will mention it when I can get another phone consult.

I found the B12 made my periods regular and heavy. I got put on Cerelle and that stopped the periods and I have been told I can stay on this until I am 55 and it lessens the symptoms of the menopause......................... happy days would definitely recommend it.

Thanks for the advice Ozzy123, many years ago I was on the depo provera injection which completely stopped my periods and it was wonderful. I only came off it because it caused my calcium to be low. I intend to increase my HRT dose by 25% and with regular B12 injections hopefully it will help transition to menopause 🤞
