Menstruation makes B12 deficincy symptoms signficantly worse (?)

Last cycle I went to the hospital because I lost the ability to walk and do fine motor skill things. I was convinced it had to do with my period but all of the doctors said that didn't make any medical sense.

I've been doing daily injections, recovering slowly but steadily, and today I started cramping again and am having stabbing nerve pain in my hands and feet, and my balance is off. I think my cycle is once again, making my B12 levels feel like they are bottoming out.

Stopped letting me write: wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar and/or if there's any advice? I'm also homozygous for MTHFR 677TT.

Sounds a bit like you might be getting short of potassium?

When you feel bad get blood tests done for folate, potassium, magnesium, iron and vitamin D.

The medics stagger me that they can be so clueless and unable to see the picture of the body working as a whole. They also seem to never see that all the things happen using only the resources we put in.

Hormones are all interdependent and they make things happen. They are made up of chemicals that come from our food - our nutrients - which are also interdependent.

If you use up more of something it puts everything else out of balance, which puts pressure on other things like nerves, which causes pain and disrupts thinking and causes emotional imbalances - if we get short of nutrients we are inherently programmed to feel anxious so we go out and find food to make things better!

They don't listen to us "hearing" our bodies! I think a lot of this comes from being taught only a little bit about the one subject that they are specialising in and unfortunately they cling doggedly to their limited knowledge and don't believe anything beyond it.

While I know they have to deal with people with hypochondria and mental health problems caused by poor upbringing and societal issues, it is a shame that they couldn't refer these people to counsellors for a bit of a rethink and help that way, so that they could listen to their genuine patients.

Sorry, rant over! Just feel for you!

See what the test results say and please ask again. Good luck!

Post menopause now but I also found that hormones affected my symptoms.MTHFR tends to have more impact on folate than B12.
