I came across an article recently for dry eyes, ears etc.
Has anyone taken Buckthorn Oil capsules for this?
I have just purchased Omega7 which contains Omega 3, 6, 7, 9 and Vit A (beta carotene) which maintains normal structure and function of the skin and mucous membranes, such as the eyes, nose, mouth and female reproductive tract and is also rich in natural antioxidants: tocopherols and tocotrienols.
It would be good to know if anyone has taken this and had a positive response?

I've just re-read the directions (I was taking 1x twice a day) but it should be 2 capsules twice a day for the first 2 weeks and and one capsule twice a day thereafter.
2 capsules have 1000 mg of Sea Buckthorn oil,
210 mg Saturated fatty acids,
480 mg Monounsatured fatty acids of which:
240 mg Omega 7 (palmitoleic acid),
180 mg Omega 9 (oleic acid) ,
60 mg Omega 7 (cis-vaccenic acid),
300 mg Polyunsatured fatty acids of which:
170 mg Omega 6 (linoleic acid),
130 mg Omega 3 (alpha linoleic acid)
4.0 mg Vitamin E (as alpha tocopherol),
400 ug Vitamin A (from B-carotene).
I bought the Omega 7 SBA24 from H&B a couple of days ago on their buy 1 and get another half price and have only been on them a day so too early to say if there is any benefit or side effects.
My nickname Moggy (on its own) seemed to be taken so I coincidentally just added a few numbers as, we are actually down to 4 now but did have 6. 1 black, 2 black and white and a tabby. Ours wouldn't take salmon oil - what type of oil do you put in your cat's food? Three are 13 and one probably 14.
I've 1 tabby 1 tortiec 3 black and white . Our oldie was 18 when 'put to sleep this year. ( black and white) . Oh I don't add oil just noticed what's in the food I buy.
Primrose oil was suggested for one with feline acne years ago.
Yes first cst I've ever had that's reached 18. Did have her from 7 weeks from a local litter needing homes. Her all black sister reached 12 yrs .Most fto. Charities . 2 were only had 18m fiv and a tiny runt who had an unknown weak heart.
I've a rolling stock now. All youngsters
Treatments do overlap with animals to humans.
The primrose oil did help the cats skin.
Also used hibiscrub to wash areas on that cat.
That's got chlorahexidine in as a hospital hand sanitiser .
On vets instructions I hasten to add.
I'm pretty sure thst was in a mouth wash i used when I got oral thrush .
A first .
Definitely connected to this b12 deficiency
When I mentioned this to Gp
She replied but you are not b12 deficient.anymore !!
Thanks Nackapan for the info on Evening Primrose I didn't realise it could be used on cats skin too.
Good on you having lots of felines over the years - I am certainly a cat person! A home is not a home without a cat (apologies to dog lovers).
I have decided just to take the Sea Buckthorn capsule once a day for the moment and then increase it if there are no noticeable side effects. I read one comment on the particular one I have bought that it was rancid - I don't know if it is possible to get SB in a tablet form so will check that out.
Can't believe your GP saying you are not B12 deficient now.....beggar's belief! I hope you are managing to arrange your own and SI if you can't get the injs at the surgery.
Do you find your cats love one type of cat food and you buy more of it only to find it was a one-hit-wonder? Mine are very spoilt - they certainly know we are their staff!
Hi Moggy. I have been taking sea buckthorn capsules for four months. I take mine because I am vegetarian so needed Omega 3 oils that are missing from my diet. I suffer with dry eyes, dry mouth and vaginal atrophy, dry skin, brittle hair and nails and honestly I have seen no improvement in any of these things despite using eye drops, skin ointment, vaginal moisturisers too. I hope you fare better x
Thank you CecilyParsley for your reply. I often buy things that have great reviews and, more recently, look at the negative ones before I buy and like you have found others on the web site hadn't noticed any improvement so I'm not convinced I will either. I will report back when I have finished the packets I've bought. I do eat walnuts daily with my oats which are high in Omega 3 and add almonds too along with seeds. Hope you find something that helps soon as I know very well how you feel - I have similar problems too. I have found that my dry eyes are less dry with more frequent B12 injs (now every 2 wks) whether it is just a coincidence I don't know. I also take R-Alpha Lipoic Acid which helps with the burning/dry tongue and mouth x
The very best thing for my dry eyes came from my Ophthalmologist. I use Hyloforte drops every hour. It is brilliant like giving your eyes a drink. I suffered using Viscotears for years without any difference. Try them they definitely work for me xx
Hi CecilyParsley I too use Hylo drops when I need them, also recommended by my Ophthalmologist, usually just once a day as they are not as dry as they used to be. Gosh you need them every hour - I'm glad they bring you relief xx
I was diagnosed with Lupus in 2009. Bechets in 2011. My condition has been given so many diagnoses over the years. I have so much going on and changes of Rheumatologist mean differing diagnoses. My new one has not actually seen me but he has started me on Colchicine and is hoping that I can restart Hydroxychloroquine. I have a mixture of symptoms, rashes joint swelling, oral, nasal, genital and anal ulceration, hemiplegic migraine, high blood pressure, gut problems, the dryness, memory problems, balance problems, Underactive thyroid, pernicious anaemia . I am a complex case lol
I’ve been taking Buckthorn tablets for 2 weeks now and I’m hopeful and optimistic that will help my dry eyes. I’ve had this condition for around 7 years. I’ve tried all sorts and seen specialists all to no avail. I was using eye lubricants daily (sometimes several times) and on occasion salt water eye washes before starting the Buckthorn.
Since starting I haven’t used the washes or lubricants once, although I may have been tempted on a couple of occasions.
I can’t emphasise enough how the dry eyes were affecting the quality of my life.
I wasn’t expecting such a good outcome so early. I had read the would take a month to have an effect.
It may be early days and I have my fingers crossed for myself and you as a fellow sufferer.
Good luck with your efforts.
I would really like to know how it works out for you.
Hello Bialystok, Good to hear you are getting success with the Buckthorn and so early. I read lots of good reviews on the site I bought from as well as negative ones too but thought Buckthorn was worth a try for me.
Like you I too was using eye washes regularly or eye drops, usually only once a day, but on occasions more frequently.
Fingers crossed you get even more benefits from Buckthorn further down the line. I will report back in a while on my experience with Buckthorn.
