Just got my labs back (keep in mind that I had a B12 injection from my former GP on June 30th). Not sure what to make of it. I have had two loading doses of B12 the last two days. Should I stay the course on the injections- daily for a week, then weekly for 4 weeks, then monthly?
Thanks. When you were taking 4,000 IU per day, do you remember what type of diet you were using? I’m thinking of going to the Mediterranean diet but I’m not sure if that is good for my stomach issues…or if it could make things worse.
With Nackapan - continue with B12 - 500 could be considered a low result for someone who is on injections though I realise that you are on cyanocobalamin which is usually retained for a month and the readings were taken at 4 weeks. However, what really counts with B12 is how you are responding in terms of symptoms - keep a diary of your symptoms and use that to determine what the frequency of the injections should be.Also do something about the vitamin D deficiency.
I have read that Homocysteine is better in single figures and even better around 6/7.
If your VitD measurement was pmol/L then a result around 125 would be good. Be aware that VitD guidelines in most areas of the UK state that the need is to bring the level up to 50 - so best to supplement yourself once you have had the loading doses.
VitD is fat soluble and there are important co-factors needed. Magnesium and VitK2- MK7... very rarely mentioned by GP's
