Asking for help to interpret blood results

Hi there! Today I received some laboratory results and I would like to have further advice and help to understand the results. My GP gave me a referral to a hematologist and I would like to know what I should ask for. I still don't have the guidance of a good health professional and I still feel lost in this process. I had to fight for every requested test and prescription.

My vitamin b12 deficiency was diagnosed on the 21st April 2021. Value: 140 pg/mL - Reference Range: 200 pg/mL - 1000 pg/mL.

I started to self-inject 10 days ago. Currently, my GP prescribed me cyanocobalamin 1000 mcg every other day IM x 2 weeks - starting the 17th June. Previous to this I had 2 times a weekly shot. In total, I have had 5 shots so far.

Now:

Vitamin B12 SerPl QN > 1500 pg/mL (High) Reference Range:

200 pg/mL - 1000 pg/mL

Folate SerPl QN 6.2 ng/mL Reference Range: >= 5.9 ng/mL

I have read that my folate levels should be higher. Should I get folate shots too?

I attach the rest of the blood results in the comments.

Thanks in advance.

Scientist, not medic.

You're doing the right things, and in the right order. B12 first. Then folate. Folate is water-soluble, and should be easily absorbed from the gut. Plenty of green veg, or folate tabs, or both, will sort that out. We don't store folate, unlike B12, so regular intake is important. You sound as if your GP understands, so keep on doing what you're doing, and don't panic.

Not what you're looking for?
