Did anyone experience greasy skin or oily skin after taking high doses of vitamin B12?

I took 1500mcg of b12 for two months and my entire skin texture has changed from normal skin to oily skin. Due to this I am continuously breaking out

Did anyone experience this ?

I am getting many more whiteheads on my chin area. Irritating, but probably the least of my worries....

Hi Nish12,

I am experiencing the same that my skin texture changed after 3 weeks of 3000 mcg daily. Did your skin change back to normal and if so how long did it take before your skin turned back to normal? It would be really great to hear your experience in this.

It's been 4 months I stopped b12 but I am still having oily skin . Although I am just getting acne on my jawline and upper lip, skin is still oily AF.

Thanks for your reply Nish12. Did you also have breakouts on other places in your face at the beginning? Do you have the feeling it improved at least a bit? Maybe it would be a good idea to update each other on this via e-mail as we are experiencing the same thing? I am breaking out in my t-zone and it seems that it is getting worse with the weeks. I stopped supplementing b12 about 11 weeks ago.

Yes I had a lot of cysts and pustules sort of breakouts all over my face... I also had acne previously but only when my periods were near or if my periods were late and it was only near my chine . But after b12 , I had a new acne almost 3 days once and all over places where I never got acne before. It took me really long to figure out it was b12 causing acne. I also went on a round of doxycycline(antibiotics) which did nothing. So, I left it and very slowly the acne came down but dint disappear completely. I still get it.

I actually quit consuming dairy for 15 days and i think its the only thing that really helped.

It will definitely get better but takes a long time as I have read it on quite a few blogs and youtube videos. Also, 3000mcg is too too high. Are u diagnosed with pernicious anemia or something? How low was your B12 and ferritin serum before supplementing?

It might take 6 months for your skin to show improvement even if its very little , because of the high dosage.

I have added you on instagram and I have also sent you a message, but we can also update each other here so other people can follow the process.

Good to hear that your skin is calming down and hopefully your skin will be totally clear in some more months. It is tough to hear that it will take months and months before the skin will show improvement.

Sometimes it seems my skin is clearing up, but some days my skin is flaring up again and my forehead is getting more and more oily and the acne seems to get worse on my forehead and above my mouth. Before taking the B12 my skin was totally clear and only experienced t-zone acne during my teenage years and I think it totally cleared because the usage of the contraceptive pill. I had totally no idea about dosages and I was not diagnosed with anything but I tested my B12 levels with a health coach and actually in hindsight my levels were good. (403 pg/ml). My ferritine levels were also good (188,3 ng/ml). This health coach advised me to use this B12 because my level could have a little boost, but this totally wrecked my skin. Of course I should have never done that. I have also cut all the dairy and high B12 foods. I only eat chicken for now. Hopefully my skin will calm down soon and hopefully my oily skin will return back to normal.

Yes for somedays your skin might tend to clear up and again start breaking out randomly. But what u can observe as the day passes , either the number of acne has reduced or they have reduced in size. But remember it's going to take time and don't stress about it .

403 is a good level. I don't understand why ur health coach had to give u such high dosage or even recommend supplements assuming u had no symptoms or issues of weakness in your body. But the good part is that it was only for 3 weeks .

I was given b12 because my levels were 97 and I was having severe hairfall.

Coming to oily skin, it should not be a problem unless u r not having acne . Ur acne might go away but the oiliness might stick around for I don't know how long because I myself am waiting for it to reduce and it still hasn't.

Lets keep in touch !
